The Lions punter has a huge boot and our special teams unit is not good.

I would rather have a good/starter lineman and an undrafted punter than the other way around. And even if Wish was a top 5 punter, the difference between average and good is what, 1.5 net avg yds? And the difference between a good lineman and a bad one is a Jimmy high ankle sprain.
And we can't keep bringing up that Pats would have gotten him. If they did, so what. Then we would be talking about the Pats drafting a Punter in the 4th round and not the Niners. Kyle, stop reaching for players!

K give me the name of that Center or interior guard you would've taken.
Did you know in the last 10 years of the draft, only 5% of 4th rounders become pro bowlers??? Only 16% become average starters in the league. Everyone else sucks.

Lets put the whole 'Don't draft a punter in the 4th round" argument to rest.

Agreed. I hate that whole argument. Wish has improved in only his 2nd season - he's having a good year and had another good game yesterday.

That #22 from the Saints game could have been had instead of Mitch. But why get a younger better version of Jimmie Ward when we can have UDFA level punting. Yay

Because Aussies are just the best and you need to learn to deal with it

Not defending Mitch but that #22 was the same guy they had their way with last year. He looked good because Kyle and Mullens didn't make adjustments.

CGJ was tasked with covering the best TE in football as a rookie. Yeah he took his lumps in that game but that's impressive that the coaching staff trusted him on Kittle as a rookie. I just think if we had drafted CGJ like many in the draft forum wanted we wouldn't have extended Ward and we would have a future stud S.

In my head I am watching the video of the draft room during this 4th round and see a slip of paper being handed to Lynch with the note saying " the zone is saying get that CGJ dude". Beads of sweat are now poring down his face as he says to Kyle "do you really want this punter scrub?" .

Taken in the 4th freakin round and still worst punter in NFC west. At least rabbito got himself a true blue Aussie drafted at niners expense.

No one would take him over Dickson, Hekker, or even Andy. All drafted later or undrafted. Fourth for long shanks, smh.

Listen here sunshine, you either don't watch much football or you are an undercover seahawks fan with this kind of take. Or simply a troll. whatever it is go away you flea.... and before mods come at me this is typical aussie banter to one who says he is one.

5th round pick
4th round pick
6th round pick
UDFA

Difference between them is 5 yards. Punters shouldn't be drafted.

Dickson salary 2020. 822,000
Wish. 866,000
Lee. 2 million
Hekker. 4.6 million
Punters should be drafted unless you want to waste salary cap.

This is an article from 2013 but it's something Phoenix and I both shared when this team drafted Pinion.

Not everyone agrees with the philosophy I get that. One who does subscribe to it is Belichick, who has drafted a a punter twice (and a couple of LS' ers too). Bill Walsh also drafted 2 punters during his tenure as HC here.

Taking the chance to find a difference maker for your ST's unit in a game of inches is not a bad gamble given the hit percentage of picks from rounds 4-7.
