Proof why you never draft a punter earlier than the fifth round.

88 is a good place to stop as Berry Helton was a Punter and my point is 100% proven as pretty much every...single...one... of these guys did absolutely nothing.... Grown ass men crying about such a worthless draft position. How amazingly juvenile.
Brandon Lloyd had a solid career. So did Lance Schulters.
The overreaching point is well taken. Picks outside the top 75 are all lottery picks. If ya ge a good backup out of em you are doing better than most.
Kendall hunter was a boss until tgat injury

At this point he'd only be worth it if he could kick FG and not just punt.

Probably not as well as Gould but most punters that do kick offs can kick field goals.
Then bring in the backup QBs to hold and you are in business.
Whether the play callers would let it happen is unlikely.

What's he done wrong? Statistically he is top 5-10 in every category.
People just need something to b***h about.

You don't think he need to catch the ball? The ball isn't in his hands when the play starts. Geez, so many football fan don't seem to understand this.

So you want to pay Andy Lee 1.134 million a year more for a couple more punts inside the 10? I don't understand why it's so hard to understand that drafting a punter is much cheaper than extending one. Get used to it cause when Mitch is a free agent they will draft another.Originally posted by AceDuce49:Originally posted by 49AllTheTime:more than some people thinkOriginally posted by AceDuce49:How many times do Mitch pin teams within the 10 yard line?
More than Andy Lee? I can't really remember anymore than maybe 2-3 times that Mitch pinned teams within the 10 let alone deep inside the 5
Pair that with his short kickoffs and it starts to feel like a 4th rounder was a bit expensive.

There is a bit more to it than that if you want both height and distance. With an aussie rules or rugby league ball, the sweet spot (the ideal spot on the ball that will give maximum response to the impact on the foot) is quite generous and forgiving unlike the nfl ball. If you "bounce" the nfl ball off your foot not quite right it is going anywhere except straight downfield, and definitely not far.
On another note, people getting on mitch's case for not putting kickoffs through the end zone, I saw a vid explaining what raiders did wrong when losing to dolphins (with fitzmagic's great no look pass), and one point made was they put the ball out the end zone which stops the clock. If they had kept it short, clock would have been going, plus longer field the dolphins would have had to play.
I suspect that may be what mitch is being asked to do.
It would be interesting seeing stats of long kickoffs vs short when 9ers want to keep time on clock or want opposition to burn clock.

There had been a little bit of criticism of the use of the clock by Shanahan in general offense.
Do you think the play calling was that detailed for the special teams? Hard to justify/excuse and heard no such detail in post match interviews. You do have a valid point imo that would be nice to get clarified.
I think the kick offs must have been an issue for Mitch because they let Gould take them for a few games and he was awful.
....and bringing in a punter prior to the last game and a kicker who can also punt might be a clue?
