Bye now players show whether they have it or not, and Mitch clearly doesn't. Especially not for a 4th round pick of a punter. He's practically a liability on STs, especially kickoffs and holding for field goals.
No. You are right. It was trash.

Wishnowsky is an average punter right now, but should improve over time.

Mitch was good as a punter last year, but not great on kickoffs. He still isn't consistent on kickoffs apparently.
Last year he was 11th on average, 9th on punts inside the 20, and top 3 on forced fair catches.
Hopefully that game was an anomaly because all but one punt looked awful.
What's so freaking painful is that Jake Bailey has been the better punter and if we were gonna take a punter/KOS, that would've been the guy I targeted over Wish.

What's worse for me is that we were a year from Michael Dickson. I'm fine with the thought process, draft a punter every 4 years, then let them walk.
The issue is like everything, you have to hit, I'm still not sure that we did, and that's concerning.

Ya he was pretty decent last year. But that's the problem, you spend a 4th on a P, you want your P to at least be top 3-5 every year. It obviously wasn't a good use of a pick based on how good he is compared to where he was drafted.

Wish is still a top-10 punter (by ave. punt distance, net punt distance, PFF score), and his punting distance improved 2019-2020.
Despite bad performance in one preaseason game, there is reason to replace him. But a drafted punter is expected to be better than that.
Regarding kickoffs, I suspect it is a strategy to kick short, and force the return. Whic is a vaid strategy, but questiobable if the ST overall is bottom-10.

I don't know about holding the team back but they aren't elevating the team.

Agreed. Yea more holding us up not back. Imagine if we can get the offense some short fields to work with. I can't even remember the last good return.

I expected a little better from him, although he is not aweful. If he does not improve this year it is time to look elsewhere. But one crap preseason game doesn't mean much.

In my draft crushes during that year Jake and Mitch were my picks but I thought that Jake (Berkley) was the obvious choice. Surprised they had to get him at 4 but Pats were sniffing and got their man at 5. Perhaps their scouting is better! Or the transition to NFL works better for others. It is obvious though that Hightower has no business coaching punters. No excuse but maybe its what this guy needs.

The buck for all of the poor performance in special teams stops with Hightower. He should have gone to the Jets with Saleh

Hey brother from another mother, something is def going on with him. The distances and height is so inconsistent. There was a bad long snap but the whole unit is off. I get the feeling that the bad press and warranted criticism will take their toll.
