Hey brother from another mother, something is def going on with him. The distances and height is so inconsistent. There was a bad long snap but the whole unit is off. I get the feeling that the bad press and warranted criticism will take their toll.

I am not so worried about the preseason. That is for blasting cobwebs. I want to see him lift his game this year. Nail more in the 20 and consistently drop them 45y +

He also needs to get his kick off game in order.

I fear it will be his last season with the 49ers if he does not.

You must perform to survive.

Everyone just needs to STFU and let me do my job. I got this

Mitch was good as a punter last year, but not great on kickoffs. He still isn't consistent on kickoffs apparently.

Last year he was 11th on average, 9th on punts inside the 20, and top 3 on forced fair catches.

Hopefully that game was an anomaly because all but one punt looked awful.

What's so freaking painful is that Jake Bailey has been the better punter and if we were gonna take a punter/KOS, that would've been the guy I targeted over Wish.

In my draft crushes during that year Jake and Mitch were my picks but I thought that Jake (Berkley) was the obvious choice. Surprised they had to get him at 4 but Pats were sniffing and got their man at 5. Perhaps their scouting is better! Or the transition to NFL works better for others. It is obvious though that Hightower has no business coaching punters. No excuse but maybe its what this guy needs.

Mitch is being underutilized. He runs a 4.5-4.6, should be a threat to fake on almost every punt.

I was so certain they were saving his fakes for the Superbowl but now I know they don't utilize that at all.

Either way u don't draft a punter in the 4th round for gimmicks and novelties. This has been the biggest example of Shany/Lynch out smarting themselves. He's been a bust from day one until now. Time to move on and never use a 4th on a punter again!

Throw old man Mitch on the Solly, Foster, Pettis pile.

Honestly, I think it is long past time for Richard Hightower to go. I've listened to a lot of interviews, and the man can barely talk in complete sentences. I think he is only a coach on this staff because he is a buddy of Kyle's from college. Let him go and get a professional who has had some success before.
i agree, special teams is special

So, this smacks of lack of imagination at the coaching level, and not just our ST coach but also our HC. Not only did we never see Mitch called on to run instead of punt but also, we never saw the Wobbler punt that comes down like a duck with one wing shot off, or the grubber on K.O.s that runs along the ground , a worm burner, and then hops 15 feet in the air.

That is imagination. Our STs have just been doing the expected. Cover punts, cover K.Os. Block for FGs. It has been plain vanilla and nothing else. It also has been poor, rating at the bottom of the league or a few cuts above.. but not much. I get that kyle is both calling the O and watching the D, probably calling the D also , altho not admitting it. He just hasn't had time to invest in STs…ask John to do it. Have him oversee our ST coach and encourage him to get creative. Take chances.

Maybe some of this is that kyle just doesn't want to take a chance on STs, so maybe our ST coach has no choice. But when was the last onside kick you recall? Any? And the wobbler…the grubber…i get the K.Os to the 4 yd line, forcing a return, but even there we have been poor on coverage. One of our DBs is going to help out there, but STs? They need to be made part and parcel of the O and D. They are worth about 1/3 of the game in plays if you add them all up. We can get WAY better here. The onus is on our ST coach…and kyle , too. C'mon Coach, ask JL to help our ST coach out here.

I wouldn't mind a 4th for another Andy Lee or Lechler. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.

The thing is people wouldn't mind Mitch if he was an UDFA. But when taken as one of the highest drafted punters in recent years and one of the oldest. The dude needs to be elite and he isn't.

They ran a couple last season but used Gould who was awful.
It is very strange that they get a guy like Mitch high in the draft and don't use his strengths. Expecting that he should at least be a M Dickson type long punter so they can 99% just flip the field. At least with Dickson the seachooks gave him some trick play snaps.

The age of a punter is irrelevant. They can play into their 40s.
This guy Mitch sucks
