People don't realize how big field position is. If we can pin a team consistently inside the 20 that is huge for our defense.

And it helps our offense
You have the #2 pick in the 4th round and you draft a punter? This is the kind of move that gets people fired down the line.

I agree. When you don't have a punter, can automatically add(upgrade) one that is already top 5 on the planet and feel confident he can remain one for the next 10+ years, go for it. His age is irrelevant to me. He can play 10-15+ years.

Also love the field awareness and ability to fake it at times.

If it doesn't work out. If he has a similar impact to what Michael Dickson had for the Seahawks last year, people will quickly get over it. Dickson was a top 5 player for that team last year and that isn't a slight against anyone else on that team, he was just that good, flipping field position and putting Seahawks opponents in tough situations down by their own goalline constantly.

I took a stroll through memory lane (aka the Bradley Pinion thread).

Lol thank you

These fans live in a world where the only acceptable round for a pro bowl potential punter is the 7th. Need that 3rd string guard!! Lol

Pinion never made a Pro Bowl, so must choose higher than 5th round.

But, don't thank me yet. I'm okay with a punter, but I do wonder about the pattern of reaching.

Pinion got drafted in the 5th because he had a powerful leg, but that's all he had. He was average for most of his time here and wasn't trash, but it did frustrate people the way he outkicked his coverage or his inability to pin teams deep without it going into the endzone. The shanks also didn't help.

Wishnowsky seems like he has both an iron foot and can directional punt with the best of them. His athleticism is also helpful and hopefully Shanny green lights him to take off any time he sees the coverage team ignoring his ability to run by leaving a gaping hole for him to run through. Hekker only does it a handful of times each season, but coverage teams can't cheat because they know he's capable getting an easy first down. That's very valuable skill a punter can have.

Yup and ask the Seahawk players and coaches how they feel about him. They f**king love him. They understand how valuable having a punter like that is. This guy has that kind of leg. He seems like a cool cat that's going to make the locker room fun too.

Lol. I guess I meant 60+ yarders. With 2 other Aussie punters averaging over 50ypp last year in the NFL I expect more. He is of the same ilk.

he has the highest career average in college of those guys
I kind of like the idea of having a punter that can pin an offense back deep... coupled with a pass rush that can force bad throws. Picking the best punter in the draft to pair up with the best pass rusher in the draft is not a coincidence... its strategy.

I agree. It's not a sexy pick and it goes against conventional wisdom to go punter in the 4th, but if he ends up a top 5 punter then it's a good pick. I think he'll be that for us.
