Weird how once they benched Phillips that Wish stopped punting the hard to catch balls… He should probably always use that kick cause it clearly had nothing to do with the Bengals returner

Thanks coach

Lol I love when no names think posting on a forum is more worthy than what Wes Welker says. Lol this forum most of the time.

Way to go for at the poster rather than the content of my post which I'm guessing is why your PBM. And you I'm guessing it's cause you can't argue against what I said cause once Boyd was back there receiving punts they had no more problems with Wish's kicks. So go back under your bridge

I did no such thing. I was simply saying a person who has absolutely no impact on anything in football at all(you)is telling a guy who has caught Wish's kick that he was wrong. It was a stupid, stupid argument, I was not going after your self at all. I'm a no name too don't be be so paranoid. You are literally making your argument out of thin air. These fumbles have happened more than once. Wish had been known for his wobbly kicks. For you to act like you know any different makes your stance hysterical. I mean, how TF could you possibly know? Lol

I'll go with my original thinking that the Bengal returner messed up but you can keep thinking Wish is doing something players haven't ever dealt with.

Well you're wrong by the coaches own admission. Read the bolded out loud then apologize.

I really don't care what you or a coach defending his player has to say. It's a returners job to field the ball and he muffed 2. You want to give Wish credit for that that's cool and if a 49er muffs a punt I hope you keep this kinda energy

Whoa there don't get hysterical. I realise your comment is likely facetious.
No doubt the next man up (Boyd) handled the 2 final punts well by getting 1 yard from his 39 yard punt and a fair catch at the bengals 13 on his 50 yard punt.
The 39 yarder was likely similar to the muffed punts for Phillips where Boyd got 1 yard. The last one probably not. Whichever way you slice it, that facet of the game for the Bengals was over after the muffed punts and kick off.

Interestingly Phillips came in as kick off returner when Morgan muffed Mitch's first kick off. Then Phillips muffed the punt and and Morgan was recalled.
Mitch's stats on the Bengals game

Kick offs:-
55 yards muffed and regained at the 10
56 yards to the 9 returned 18 yards
65 yards to the 0 returned 18 yards
65 yards TB
65 Yards TB
65 Yards TB

Punts:
42 yards to the 44 returned 12 yards
39 yards to the 24 muffed
43 yards to the 29 returned 8 yards
47 yards to the 32 muffed
29 yards to the 34 Out of Bounds
39 yards to the 30 returned 1 yard
50 yards to the 13 FC
Sure seems strange that game following the screwups by STs, you know Hightower and STs had a come to Jesus meeting with kyle. I bet he ripped'em all a new one….well deserved BTW, and next game there are 2 muffed punts? That wasn't coincidence, and neither was the fact that Hightower had never used Wish's trix kicks before.

Next up? Wait til we get up by 3 scores, say 17 pts, and let's see if kyle asks Wish for a KO "grubber'…aka a worm burner that runs along the ground, and then pops up 10 yds or so. If that happens then we know kyle called for it. Also looking for another wobbler or 2 on Sunday.

i just think it took 2 losses by STs for kyle to accept that STs are part of the game too…and now he believes it, and Wish has been given the green lite. Also think we are closing in on an onsides kick if we're up by 15

we'll see.

That does give some definite validity to what you're saying Trey. We all knew that Mitch has a nasty rotation on some of his punts and it's well documented he has his bag of tricks as well. I'll give the expertise to Wes and the Bengals coach as well. I wish we used that draft pick on a cb but at least we all can agree that we now have a good punter not named Pinion

We probably have the fastest punter in the league and they haven't used him for a single fake... ever

This is my biggest gripe with the 49ers coaching. They seem to have an issue setting up and surprising people. One of my biggest pet peeves this year has been the offense running a hurry up at the end of a quarter, trying to get the other team to jump. THEY NEVER JUMP!....and WHY!? Because the 49ers NEVER snap that ball. Just once I'd like them to run up to the line, do a bunch of fakes and motions....but then at the last second, snap the ball and run a play. After about 10 seconds of fake cadences, the defense loosens up because they know there will be no play. THAT IS WHEN YOU STRIKE! It is on tape all year of our offense running to the line and trying to get a free 5 yards before a quarter. But they all end the same way. Just once, change it for the sake of keeping a defense honest. You put one last second snap on tape, you put one fake punt or fake fg on tape, the fake cadence becomes more effective and the fg/punt defense becomes less aggressive.

Yeah that would be cool. Tell the team the ball will be snapped right after the clock turns 1.

There was a play in the Bengals game where their defense didnt break the huddle until real late. Our one WR had no one lined up across from him. Jimmy and the WRs should have the freedom to take advantage of that. Quick snap and throw. Easy yards.
The 49ers rank #1 in the NFL in punt DVOA.

Couldn't argue this even if I wanted to…it's spot on. But just think…now that kyle has accepted the fact that STs are part of the game too, maybe he is saving that hurry up to the LOS just before qtr ends…and in a do or die game, he actually does get the play called. Can't say it won't surprise the heck out of our opponent.

2 ST losses (and i could argue a 3rd), finally brot kyle along to the existence of the ST, and its importance. Those 2 losses were the wake up call for a cerebral guy who may have taken STs as not really part of REAL football. Now i suspect he sees it as just another way to win…or perhaps, maybe another way to lose…if you don't pay attn to it. Or lastly, maybe he now looks at it as another way to scheme.

whatever it is…thank goodness…just cost 2 Ls to bring that message home. Point is…he got it, and has already said enough to screw with psyche of any upcoming PRs

Kyle said Mitch has had 16 punts either muffed or bobbled since in the league (less than 3 years)
People are also forgetting how well he tackles. Despite my thought at the time, using a 4th for a punter, I think it was worth it.
Jake Bailey, the guy that the Pats ended up with in the 5th round after Lynch moved to get Wish just had a punt blocked resulting in a TD.

I imagine there are now forum folks in New England bemoaning the choice of a punter in the 5th.
