The last punt landed inside the 20 but bounced in to the Endzone. He should have been good enough to make it land where it bounces backward. However, that it is not an easy punt if the snap is off or the defense is breaking through, which it did. He is expected to do better than an average punter. He did not.

Overall his punting was at a decent average and better than many others, but the Cowboys punter did much better and also threw for a first down. That is the level most fans on this thread expect. You can blame bad coaching but he had to rise above and prove the doubters wrong. This year will be his last here IMO.

If there is something else that keyboard warriors like me are not aware of I sure would would love to hear about it. Pat McAfee and Pro kick have not said much since he was drafted.

Guarantee Mitch would've snuffed out that fake punt and avoided roughing the kicker. Need to stop wasting his talents on punting!

They'll probably get a new punter next year, but lets be honest, the special teams coach needs to go too. But he won't

Seriously. According to us Aussies, Mitch would be greatest NFL player of all time if wasn't for Hightower.
Mitch was great coming out of college but one of the reasons he was great was because he offered the opportunity to fake. That's a reason he was highly regarded. We haven't tried a single fake 3 years while we were hit huge twice this year. That's on the coaching.

Toward the end of the season (after week 14, I believed), the 49ers actually ranked #1 in punt DVOA.

Wishnowsky is a good punter. There is absolutely no reason to get a new punter.
He's solid but after watching Seattle, Rams and now the Cowboys, what a top ST coach and punter can make for your team.

We're top 5 in offense and defense. 27th in ST. Maybe 32nd now.

He's a solid punter. My only concern is that he doesn't seem to have the leg anymore on kickoff duties. That's something they'll have to think about in the offseason.

Both he and Gould will probably be replaced in the next offseason or two. Gould, particularly, is still a good kicker, but I don't consider him an elite kicker anymore and he's paid pretty highly. They might reconsider his value and have to make a tough call.

I doubt the issue is leg strength. It must be either technique, or some sort of injury.

That's what I thought too. Really weird that the scouting doesn't match the coaching since the coaches are the same as when scouted. The guy that went in the 5th round went to the Pats and is as vanilla as this coach needed. But even then this fan base would complain because no one ever takes a punter that high up when you could get an elite corner or Tom Brady or some such silliness.

I hope Mitch is taking notes from Hekker on how to pin an opponent back. What am I talking about, it must be Hightower coaching him not to pin opponents. Obviously his issue is the same as Solly, Akello, Pettis. Kentwan, Garnett, AJ, etc….poor coaching. Nothing to do with personal accountability!

Hekker? Great punter. Even a UDFA which suits your draft position of choice for punters.

He would be wasted on this team since he has fake punted plenty of times with passing and running.

And his salary is something this franchise has proven they will pass on when they got rid of Andy Lee.

And didn't he act like a little girl when an opponent shaped up to him?

I think you found our man um girl whatever. He kicks real good..

You act like fakes should be happening play in and play out. What difference does it make if he doesn't "kick real good". I guess a punters ability to actually punt/kick is overrated. It's ok to admit that everything that comes out of Oz isn't flawless, instead of ragging on punters that Mitch can't hold a candle to. Stick to AFL.

You can have that aerial ping pong jibberish.

Just one. Just one. Fake punt. But after 6 years of nothing why on earth would you bring in a guy who is better known for that than long punts.

And stop with putting words in my mouth. He does kick real good.

There are hardly any Aussies here now the Hayne plane crashed and burned except for true NFL fans.

Yes I do want to see more trick plays that college ball seems to master and the Prokick academy and Pat McAfee are bolstering. There are very few Jordan Mialatas, Hufanga, Tagaviola around but as a minority in a super tough sport to break in to, island nations of the pacific are gaining ground. Just enjoy the growth as there will always be setbacks and some that don't pan out but the game of NFL is the winner.

I hated the way Pinion played but that is my personal opinion on that phase of the game.

There is also a lot of chatter to keep changing and limiting that phase of the game to the point of having that position erased or combined with the kicker since it is so boring. NFL Red Zone never show them unless it is a disaster or score. Networks use them to launch their ads. If coaches continue to whine and play not to lose it will disappear. Good or bad there is a better way.

If Deebo can pass the ball then there is hope for the trick play dream on special teams.

A least Mitch isn't a convicted rapist. I suppose you get such quality from a 4th round pick
