Yeah. Ray Guy award aka the best in college for that year. Doesn't translate in NFL the dame as Heisman. Always a limited sample size.

Word, yeah hopefully he can be more consistent this yr...I think SF will play out his contract and go in another direction all said and done.

And start just bringing in UDFAs every few years.

Playing In Utah must be high enough that the air is thinner? Some of you folk know this better then me.

Unless he can produce more accuracy ie coffin corners, inside 10y with hang time the gunners can reach and generally longer punts he will struggle to keep his job. Unknown aspect is the new special teams coach which will create the clarity of his position.

Yes that is what is needed to NOT lose on special teams. A lot harder than you might think.

I am positive they did not want to take this guy in the 4th. Lynch will have learnt what Kyle wants better by now. Especially the way Kyle used special teams for most of Mitch's tenure. And also Wish not making the most of opportunities he had to make a big difference. A game of inches.

But to your point on FAs. baring in mind how little the difference is between 6th / 7th round and UDFA there is for punters the mix is slightly down on undrafted ones by 13 to 9. Of course this metric is not everything in the punting world but is what most will refer to.

Current top punters in the NFL by avg punt. (min 10 punts avg 45 and above)
Round Picked
UDFA - Jack Fox
6th - Andy Lee
3rd - Bryan Anger
UDFA - Tress Way
7th - Lachlan Edwards
UDFA - Blake Gillikin
5th - Thomas Morstead
7th - Logan Cooke
5th - Jake Bailey
UDFA - Tommy Townsend
5th - Michael Dickson
UDFA - Cam Johnston
UDFA - Corey Bojorquez
UDFA - Jordan Berry
5th - Kevin Huber
6th - Pat O'Donnell
5th - Sam Martin
6th - Braden Mann
3rd - Dustin Colquitt
UDFA - Ty Long
UDFA - Cameron Nizialek
4th - Mitch Wishnowsky

Truth is the good signing will depend on the scouting and the will of the player to improve and may already be on some other teams practice squad. But it does seem that the drafted ones outshine the others. And a conservative mind like Kyle will likely take the safer pick and not the scrubs.

He was also the NFC special teams player of the month which is pretty damn good. Very good. Hope he gets more consistent

Yeah, no need to draft someone, just call up one of the many UDFAs.

I am sure he will be used better by the new special teams coach this season. Hightower stuffed up special teams across the board.

Let's not forget he won NFCs special teams player of the month in September (not a full month). He definitely has the potential to be a top punter in the NFL. He better get his s**t straightened out and losing the worst special teams coach can only help

What is interesting is the new coach's past outing with the Seachooks had them doing some trick plays and their punter who came through the same academy won the MVP. That punter has regressed since he left.
Whoever the punter is going to be I at least hope we see something befitting their skillset. Sounds like a step in the right direction.
I'll wait and see this year now that Hightower is gone but his inconsistent punts and inability to kick a ball out of the back of the EZ is super alarming. You just can't have that and had he'd been an UDFA, might already be gone.

Very true. It can only help. We had the league's worst Special Teams over the past 10 years so Wish can only improve imo

Pretty smart observation. Reminds of a Monday night game in Denver when I was a kid. Giants and broncos were booming each punt for 70+ yards. Lol.

Ya that's a very good observation.
Interesting that, according to commentary in preseason gme, Wish is to concentrate on punting only.
