Interesting that, according to commentary in preseason gme, Wish is to concentrate on punting only.

Agree

If he can excel i n his primary job - then Great!

Wish would have been good on that long return for the tackle instead of old man Gould risking getting a hip replacement.
But sadly Wish's inconsistency in KO put the brakes on that.
Nonetheless It seems like the ST coach is shaking things up.
I think we are getting a new punter in 2023 if this is the best we are going to get from Wish. I've been a supporter for years, but for a 4th round pick...

It is hard to drop a 4th on any punter, but if you do he has to be absolutely elite.

I am a big Wish fan too, and I think dumping on him is uncalled for, but when you spend a 4th we can't be talking about average punting performance with parts of his game.

I will say this, no punter in the league has a better Net with with more balls downed inside the 20 with less attempts then Wish.

He is above average at taking away return attempts when the offense stalls around mid field. The cavate is other play it safe punters (there are a few) have lower, some times drastically lower, return rates on similar low volume punting.

When you factor in the return average on balls returnable, Wish looks pretty good even compared to monster legged punters like AJ Cole (who allowed more returns for more yardage then Wish), but that does factor the players that cover the punts, not just hang time and punt placement.

The draft pick we spent on him should in no way be a reason to move on from him.

I was wrong to say that we are getting a new punter. Its just disappointing. As I said, I'm a supporter, but its a let down.

Granted, he is getting a bit long in the tooth too.

If we don't see something special from him this season I can understand that he will be replaced.

But before we bury him entirely lets just see what the new coach can do with him.
Thread has gone kinda quiet as of late.....

Anyone predict the "focus on punting" would have this kind of impact on the punt numbers??

4th rounder for a punter who's leg is too weak for kick offs. Keeps getting better and better for old Mitch. Called it as soon as he was drafted. Time to cut losses, like they did with Solly and Reuben.
You see these two rookie punters? .. holy bleep.. these guys have their own highlight reels and it's just preseason. and they are punters. Wish this guy Wish would step his game up.

Which punt in the last game was worthy of dropping him?

Was outshined by udfa rookie! You apologists who keep saying he's going to improve are delusional. Guy's in his late thirties.
