I don't condemn the pick and I hope he balls out. I just wonder if he was the only P they found acceptable. I get the feeling that he got the nod because he's a safe bet for a rookie contract and because they can use him for some trick plays.

Yup sounds like it. Oh well. Hopefully it works out and he makes special teams exciting
I'm totally excited about this guy. You don't select a punter in the 4th unless he is something special.

Weve had the best kicker in football, which is extremely valuable, considering how bad it can get when you dont have a good one.

Juszczyk has made the Pro Bowl both years hes been here.

Punters do WAY more for your team than people ever admit. Field position is HUGE. Getting pinned back inside your own 10 is pretty much dead from the start. A good punter can change games.

Oscar has become extremely snobby and sarcastic since he got into the film scouting game. I stopped listening to his podcast years ago.

This team is such a joke. You don't over spend draft picks and money like that. I can see why they lose year after year.

How dare they!!

Weve lost year after year because we haven't had a good QB.

Field position is huge, and an elite punter can give you a significant advantage. Our running game is top tier, partly because of our pro bowl FB. Gould has been our only consistent scorer during all the injuries. Id pay a premium for a top flight kicker every year.

You've been whining about the Niners on here for years. Go find a different team already. Actually, you probably like to complain, which is why you're still a fan.

Shanahan said he definitely would've been gone by the 5th. Teams have a much better feel of the buzz and the atmosphere of the draft than the fans or "experts" do. Its funny how the fans think they know everything about these prospects based on very little research.
He's kind of fast lol

Hey San Diego, I'm sure if you look back at all of your past draft picks and crushes you would find that more often then not your picks miss than turn into stars. At least that is true for me anyways. Find ways to be happy and hopeful rather than disappointed. Life is just better that way.

Definitely not.

We met with these guys:
P Jake Bailey - went to the Pat's #163 (their 2nd pick of the 5th round)
P Jack Fox
P Jamie Gillan

We found out after the draft we had met with MW as well.

What was wrong with Bradley pinion ??

He was only a 5th rounder.

But, they probably thought a P on a rookie contract was a better option than paying Pinion.

Unless Pinion was sucking. I would've rather paid him the extra 2 million a year we were saving and used that high 4th round pick on a good prospect.

Pinion did suck. I hated the overdrafting, but I'll take the potential of this guy over Pinion.
I would have been fine with Bailey in the 5th. I'm sure they wanted Wishnowsky a lot more than Bailey. Dickson was picked at #149 last year by the Hawks. The niners 5th round pick was #148. More than likely he doesn't make it to their next pick. To me, not that big of a deal, especially not worth 30+ pages of whining. Besides most of the suggested players, posters thought they should have taken instead, were available in the 6th, 7th & UDFA. They would have been a reach too.

One of Lynch/KS (I think Lynch) also said that half the guys they brought in for visits they didn't like. So listing them probably doesn't reflect the truth.

Having said that, I'm sure they liked other punters and a 4th does seem a bit much. However, it's done now, he's a guaranteed starter and likely to be top in his position.

So I'll accept it and just spend the off season nervous about our secondary until they show there's no reason to be.

You have to Remember we didn't have a 5th round pick when we selected Wishnowsky... that came later in the Watson trade.
I saw a stat that made me a believer about this guy...in his last 106 punts, less than 100 yds were returned. That's very impressive. I saw this guy a couple of times last season...he thunders the ball downfield, far and high. Our STers will love this guy. At first I was put off by Lynch taking him in the 4th...but after seeing video and reading more about him, and the fact Lynch didn't have a 5th rounder, it makes sense to take him when the opportunity presented itself. Further, he can kick with either leg...yikes. Screw all these grade people...they slammed the Niners for taking him when they did. Whatever. We now have another weapon on ST's.

I must admit that this is the first punter who's highlights I actually liked watching. Dude can punt on the run which means a defense has no idea if he will keep it or punt it.
