I'm not as worried about him because he's used to it. I'm more worried about the blockers in front of him.
It would not matter to him if they were there or not.
Here is a 10 minute clip of an AFL game that will show you why these punters are versatile and can adapt. There are a couple of other interesting things other then punting in this clip that if occurred in NFL would make it really interesting as well.
I getcha. Thanks!

I must admit that this is the first punter who's highlights I actually liked watching. Dude can punt on the run which means a defense has no idea if he will keep it or punt it.[ Edited by Joecool on Apr 28, 2019 at 5:21 PM ]
A 1.06 yard average suggests a great hang time. Good luck to him and the team.Originally posted by CorvaNinerFan:I saw a stat that made me a believer about this guy...in his last 106 punts, less than 100 yds were returned. That's very impressive. I saw this guy a couple of times last season...he thunders the ball downfield, far and high. Our STers will love this guy. At first I was put off by Lynch taking him in the 4th...but after seeing video and reading more about him, and the fact Lynch didn't have a 5th rounder, it makes sense to take him when the opportunity presented itself. Further, he can kick with either leg...yikes. Screw all these grade people...they slammed the Niners for taking him when they did. Whatever. We now have another weapon on ST's.
Gotta admit i also liked what JoeCool and Corva noted. Running and punting is really unique and if kyle doesn't use that I will be amazed. The 100 punts returned for 106 yards....that is some kind of stat. For a guy like that , 4th rd isn't too high. Sounds about right.
And we know if anyone is going to beat teams over the head with W's talents, it will be kyle.

Best summary on how I feel about the Wish selection. The odds of a 4th OL, CB, S or even TE becoming something special with the ability with greater impact (snap count) for our team IMHO is greater than the ability of the "best punter in the draft" to impact a team with so many needs in other areas. If I'm going to take a risk in an area of talent, why not take that risk in an area of need even if you feel initially that player "may not beat out" who you have there currently? I think it's pretty presumptuous to say given all the draft-eligible players, not one OL, CB, S or even TE available in the 4th has and absolute zero chance of challenging a starter or depth - especially on the OL. Especially. And it happens every year, some team wins that bet by turning a 4th rounder into a good/great player. More art than science I understand.
I disagree that the odds are better for one of the position players to have an impact than a punter. If they made the team and if they got significant playing time then that would be true. The punter is probably 99% sure of making the team and being the guy. Look at the stats on the chance of scoring vs. starting field position. It increases about 10% for every 10 yards. That's why it's important to keep the other team pinned back. When the punter keeps the other team pinned deep it gives the defense a better chance of stopping them, a better chance of getting the ball back in good field position and a better chance of forcing a turnover. This was a problem last year for us. We were constantly forced to try and drive the length of the field while our opponents too often got the ball near midfield. Unless this guy is a bust he solves one more problem for this team.
This isn't only solved with a good punter. We need to move the ball on offense more consistently.

I am still pumped and hope it works out I'll just get back in my clos...place.
That's not right. Mitch's mate the kicker is Gay.
You right. His partner at Utah is Gay but Wish is not Gay. He is a punter who kicks off and the Gay guy who is not gay Kicks and punts on horses. (I made that last part up).
The Gay guy did not win the Ray Guy medal which Mitch Wish did. Betcha Mitch wishes he was Ray and happy he is not Gay. Although being Gay would be fine since he got in a NFL team too.
Mitch was all American for 3 years in a row but is Australian.
Now Mitch is gonna help the Niners win a world championship in a national competition.
Who said he shouldn't be picked in the 4th.

The guy that we dumped for pinion because we didn't want to pay an extra million to the best punter in the league. Championship-level decision right there by the front office
That was Baalke.

In his transcript he noted that his ability to run fakes and read punt coverages makes other teams not double gunners or go one light in the box. They have to play honest. That'll make our coverage team just that much better.
I watched a couple Utah games and he's amazing at pinning teams back. Saw him land a 50+ yarder on the 1/2 yard line with back spin. Dude is a beast.

Poor Mitch had a rough go in here. Kyle was upset at Lynch for trading up to get C.J. BeatHard in the 3rd because of the scrutiny it would bring.
Mitch is getting that treatment now for going early in the 4th.
