It definitely isn't a new thing for Shanahan given his old man and upbringing. He wanted the pick and he wanted it bad. I would think his football knowledge and intuition is better then anyone on this forum and probably better then most on here combined if not all of us.... just a thought.

I reckon people are too dialed in to taking a punter as free agent, where duration is arbitrary.

lamontb, every draft pick is required to sign a 4yr deal, 1st rd picks have a 5th year team option.
