I think Greenlaw will be priority #1 or should be to be re-signed, they need to do the following IMO.

Extend Brock, Kittle, & Warner
Re-Sign Dre, Huf, Moore, Dobbs, Taylor, Saubert, Heck, Bartch, Ya-Sin, McCloud (Most would be 1yr vet minimum deals IMO)
Tenders ERFAs Tonges, Willis, Okyuaninonu, Pleasants, Anderson, Graham, Barrett & White
Tender RFA Mason
Sign RFA Robinson to 1yr $1.1M deal
Let Mooney, Banks walk

Right now they have 51 players signed for 2025, around $63M in projected cap room, before the cap is set, then that'll go down due to Brock & Burford's base salaries escalating, Brock to the 2nd rd tender level, Burford the original round tender level, extending Kittle & Warner saves the team nearly $24M, if they do the maximum, I don't see anyway the 49ers let either go or walk when FAs, Brock gets a big deal that is structured like Lawrence's is, look who the GM is there, Baalke, the 49ers way.

As for Dre & Huf's deals, idk what to expect, but $14M a yr for Dre is worth it IMO, without Dre our defense sucks or we need to replace him with someone in FA that's as good or better than him, which idk if anyone is out there, Dre is a top 10 off ball LB IMO,

You knew this stuff coming with Brock. Paying high priced players and not on field will be the spotlight. Looking at injuries as a whole. Youth.

Brock is irrelevant to Greenlaw potentially not coming back. Completely irrelevant.

BS. We have holes to fill many places. Look at injuries, recurring and not. We have to pay Brock, fix OL. Do some defensive line work. Money doesn't grow on trees any longer. Look at a few other free agents.

This team needs to get younger even if fan feelings get hurt.

Brock's extension wouldnt kick in until 2026. We have the most capspace in the league. Our front office has stated many times they are prepared for Brock's extension. Greenlaw is coming off of a huge injury and only had a $9M cap hit in his last contract. Even if he gets a substantial raise (which would be interesting given the injury thing), his salary wouldnt be nearly enough to think that Brock's 2026 extension had anything to do with it.

A Brock extension wouldn't effect the cap until 2028, the first 3 yrs(2025-2027) would be in the $13M, $20M, & $25M cap number ranges, it'll be structured like Trevor Lawrence's deal is.

I don't think Dre is gone, I still see the 49ers keeping both Dre & Huf, letting Mooney & Banks walk, I think Dre is a top 10 off-ball LB, and he deserves a significant raise, and the 49ers CAN AFFORD him & Warner long term.

I agree we need Dre his leadership and dawg in him is infectious. Since we can afford him he should be kept with a competitive deal. But can we do a 1+1 deal so we protect the guarantees if there's future injury.
Huf i don't feel the same way. Not a good tackler and he's been taking bad angles.
Pappa thinks we will cut Hargrave then try to re sign him at a reduced rate, so maybe we can create this room for Dre without tapping into other needs.

They can do something where they give him the GTD money he wants, years, etc... But structure it so 1. they can get out of it after yr whatever it is, and 2. injury guarantees, I doubt any team will sign him without wanting some sorta injury guarantee(s) in the contract.

I doubt the 49ers bring back Hargrave, if they were going to they would have just eliminated his 2026 year, they redid both 2025 & 2026, lowering his 2025 down to $2.1M, and upped his 2026 to like $36M base salary wise, might be more can't remember for sure, but both years become GTD on the 2nd day of the new league year, so March 13th it should be, so he's gonna be a post June 1 cut designation, I think they did this to give him a chance to latch on somewhere else, I'd be surprised if he returns in 2025, wouldn't shock me if he doesn't find anything elsewhere, they could always move back the guarantee date, work something out, if he's healthy enough to pass a physical.

I just think they re-sign Hufanga, and go with Mustapha at FS, Huf at SS for the future, the defense has been better when both Dre & Huf are on the field.

I see them extending not just Brock this offseason, but also Kittle & Warner, saving the team almost $24M between those 2, while lowering Warner's 2026 cap number to help offset Brock's 2026 cap hit.

A solid take as always AB 👍

Yea being real optimistic I think Greenlaw is going to get paid somewhere else. Not super bucks but more than we are willing to pay. Looks for wherever Saleh Lands. Or the Titans or Texans to outbid us. Only hope we have is the injury concerns might hamper his efforts, But that's not really a plus.

I really could careless about what they play huf. dude just isn't all that great or important. They can upgrade that position in the draft for cheap

This is a 2-high league now. Fans are so focused on pass coverage, but if your safeties can't fit runs, your run defense is food for offenses. The improvements in run fits when Hufanga was on the field was night and day vs JiAyir Brown.

I can give you that but the last 2 games Huf has looked like trash out there. Even when he fills he's not wrapping up just throwing his shoulder and defenders aren't being tackled.

I agree, should have said that when I posted this, Brock's deal has nothing to do with any of the potential FAs being brought back or being brought in, they most likely won't commit long term to many, if any, free agents, they won't sign a tier 1 FA that everyone on here will want, I see Dre, Huf, Moore, Dobbs, their ERFAs & RFAs all back for at least camp.
been tooting this horn for a couple weeks now.. we could make 2025 an all in year with the amount of decent FAs coming up in 2025

This has to do moreso with the 49ers' tackle philosophy than run fits(ie being in correct gap). I don't know if you guys picked up on this earlier in the year, but Tom Brady said in his meeting with Sorensen that they teach the first defender to the ball to go for the woo hit and then allow the secondary defenders to take the ball carrier down. This was pretty jarring to me and probably something they may want to reconsider in this offseason.

he can't really wrap up when he only has one hand that can grab

Plus starting late in a season doesn't help as all the work in done in camp. The season is mostly walk through practices

Probably why we suddenly sucked at tackling

Huf hadn't shaken the rust off yet...and he only had one hand. He will be fine.

I agree with your observations about Hufanga. But I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Players don't fully trust rebuilt knees for quite some time, usually it takes a full season before they are comfortable with playing at full speed or mobility. They can, but they just don't trust the knee yet. He will next TC.
I'll miss you Dre!

So it begins.

Players up for FA are sending messages that they will go to a new team if they don't get what they want. They know what is reasonable, and their agent knows, and so do the 49ers. At this point, it is all posturing. No hard conclusions should be drawn from any of it at this point.

I fully believe all teams tamper and they may already know a team or two interested via their agent etc.

apparently Howie Roseman loves Greenlaw, even after the whole Big Dom thing, and Philly was planning on targeting Greenlaw in FA as far back as this last summmer, Do not have a source or anything, but i remember reading about it.

Interesting, I don't know their cap situation, but I can't imagine any team offering him anything crazy beyond what we could do. We shall see.

Mofos. It's risky paying him a lot. Even if we do retain him I expect them to draft a LB as winters ain't it.
