He's coming off a serious injury though. I don't think the price is going to be as high as people might think. I remember people thinking Eman was going to be too expensive to retain and the Lions ended up signing him to a 1 year deal worth $5.3 Million. Because he was coming off an ACL injury. Now Dre won't be that cheap but I don't think he is going to be as expensive as some think.

Can he stay health? He lasted 5 mins coming back from Achilles. We were brutal at the linebacker position this year. Cant afford to pencil him in and he ends up in the press box.

Mosely has had some bad injury luck. Im sure Detroit wants to retain him, but if the money were cheap,I'd certainly want him back.

I'd roll the dice and re-sign him. The upside outweighs the downside. What's the opportunity cost of signing Greenlaw? I don't see another free agent out there that we will miss out on by signing Greenlaw.

Plus, if we re-sign him, that means he won't go to a team like the Rams that are desperate for linebacker help and can afford to pay him a few extra million. Knowing our luck, he'll stay healthy the whole year on another team, we know this as this as Niner fans

we need culture / tone setters like this.
This feels like a lose-lose situation for John Lynch. If Dre is Dre and he's resigned on a 1-year deal, fans will be upset that Lynch didn't give him a long deal when he was cheapest, and they'll have to do this process again next offseason with Dre most likely pricing himself out of the 49ers' budget; if Lynch allows him to walk and Dre is Dre for another team, everyone is going to be pissed; if he gives Dre the bag but he ends up struggling with lingering injuries all year, John Lynch is an idiot for paying a player who clearly wasn't healthy.

that logic can be placed on any FA or draft pick

Just give him a fair deal.. Dre and family want to be here and he's earned to stay

I'd risk a multi-year extension

I'd risk a multi-year extension

I say one year deal with player option for 2 more years worth more than the 1st year once he proves his health

Odds are he will get hurt again. He plays a brutal style of football.

Ironic statement considering his non contact injury during the super bowl.

Yeah that thing didn't just suddenly tear. He was probably playing through pain and it finally gave out. Guys like that who will run through a brick wall without thinking are walking wounded.
