As I said in the Kwon thread, the silver lining is the timing. The 49ers may lose a few games / need more help from the offense to win due to Kwon's absence, but eight games is a lot of playing time, and hopefully will pay massive dividends for Greenlaw come playoff time.

I really hope you're correct. I've been upbeat all through the season. But this has me down. I know it all starts upfront with our line. They're elite. Did that make kwon look better than he was? I'm just not sure. He was a leader and did play at a high level. Will find out in 11 days how much of an impact it's going to have on the defense. Next man up.

Every time the 49ers have an injury its "the season is over". And yet the 49ers are 8-0. Juszczyk is out... "well the 49ers wont be able to run the ball anymore"....

I know man. I'm Not trying to get off subject. So I'll just say I hope this rookie is ready for the s**t storm coming his way on the field. Because you know offenses are going to try to exploit his inexperience. If our coaches are as good as I believe they are, they'll have him ready.

Just as a general comparison, here are the PFF numbers for the three 49er LBs:

player - run grade/snaps - coverage/snaps

Dre ------ 55/73 ----------- 61/94

Kwon -- 38/137 ----------- 81/201

Fred -- 30/167 ----------- 70/244

For context, Lynch obviously brought in LBs that can cover, somewhat at the expense of run defense. Warner is the biggest at 236. Dre is 230. Kwon - 227.

So what we will be getting with Dre is a guy who is a good bit better against the run but not as good as Kwon in coverage. Kyle/Saleh will have to scheme a bit to provide coverage. That likely means more nickel to cover TEs and RBs rather than rely on Greenlaw in coverage.
This is not the same speed at all. But I hope he will hold up decently at least and help us through this injury.
Dude has 10 days to get himself ready. He should pay E. Sanders to mentor him on maximizing his preparedness.

Dude will do fine. He already sent Elijah Lee to the PS and Malcolm Smith to the grocery store.
I have faith in the kid he played pretty good in the preseason and had a good college career
So Dre takes over for Kwon. Who takes over for Dre? I'm more worried about that lol.
IMAGINE THIS: 2019-2020 SB Champs (or even a deep playoff run); returning the next year is a further developed playoff experienced Warner, a fully recovered and hungrier Kwon and a post-playoff experience Dre all together as our LB corps.

Why? The SAM barely plays.

Nzeocha will likely replace Greenlaw at SAM.
