Of all the LBs, he is the highest-rated run defender.

I was re-watching the Arizona game and I was impressed with his speed and acceleration on that Kyler Murray sack. His speed stopped very quickly some 4rth qtr Arizona screen plays, and I think - while his weakness will be pass coverage because of his inexperience - his speed and agility might just offset some of that lack of experience. I have some high hopes that he'll be as good as (or hopefully better) than Kwon.

God, I needed this kind of news. Even if from Grant Cohn lol
Watched the 49ers Cards game highlights and keyed in on DG....and boy was it ugly to watch. He looked completely lost on all play action plays, biting on several pretty bad. I get it, he's still a rook but I'm sure Thl will cover some of these. But, was was more concerning was his half ass running on several plays.I was definitely discouraged watching him, overall

I'm hoping he made good plays on other ones not covered in the highlights to offset some of those awful plays.

I could really see him struggling this upcoming game against a mobile qb like RW and against playaction, roll outs, and any read-option plays.

I do want to add Kwon didn't look any better. He looked just as bad against the Cards.
Our pash rush and containment have to show up huge on Mon! If he gets a few stops or pass deflects early; maybe even a pick, that will be huge for our D. Seattle has to be focusing their offensive game plan on the young kid.

This kid has great character....I'll be rooting for him.

He'll get the job done. It may not always be pretty but he will get it done.

The Linebackers and secondary were out of sorts that whole game, I chalk it up to a short week plus playing against an offense and QB they have never faced before

You dont really stop guys like Midget Wilson. Same with Steve Young. Mobile QB'S that can pass - eliminate a defenses man advantage against any offense. You can only hope to slow them down. I think thats why it's so critical for Staley juzkuzic and McGlinchy to be getting healthy, and it helps that Witherspoon is also getting healthy. Emanuel had a bad day in Arizona.

Play action passes take a long time to develop, if the DLine doesn't buy the run fake, Midget is toast. However, that Seadderall run game is top of the line, you have to respect those run fakes to a certain extent.

It's my hope the 49er pass rush forces Midget or their runners to cough up the ball and we get a two score lead. That helps the defense ignore those run fakes and any bootleg and QB keeper plays. If they dont, the game could develop into a track meet game where the last team to score wins the game.

Agree, and home field advantage helped AZ's offense. I think our offense dropped a TD or two, otherwise we'd have been up by more points. We have home field this monday night. That should be an advantage, or worst case scenario - a neutral field.

Also agree that facing Kyler helps the 49er defense get acclimated to Midgets QB style of offense. If anything, I hope Dre blows up thier screen game the way he did a couple of them in AZ.

I really hope you're both right.
I think this kid is going to impress and be a tackling machine for us. I do think our coverage in the middle off the field will drop off a bit but I think he will be solid.
Are we going to be OK with this guy? We are giving up something on speed for sure. That concerns me in coverage at least.
