If not the next man up, then what? Niners have trade chips like Thomas and maybe now even Pettis to make some moves. Would you use either one of them to get another OT? Just asking.

I would trade Solomon given we're deep at D line but WR not so much
Let's go Skule!

nah lets just use our draft capital. it would be the only way to get someone worth trading for and starting in place of staley. no one is going to trade a legit starter for any of the guys we are willing to part with

I just watched all the available highlights of Skule #67 from pre season, he ain't that bad? He rarely got blown up or knocked down, only saw once during a run at the goal line tripped over another guy. He constantly gets up field for run blocking, engaged his guy and locked on decent. He never appeared to be overpowered as he constantly was able to move his defender back on designed run plays. The play where CJ is running down the sidelines blocking, Skule took his guy off his feet down field 10 yards. The issue I observed in the first two games was he'd make contact on the edge with the rusher, and would try and stop moving his feet, which allowed the rusher around the edge. However in games 3-4 he improved alot and continued to roll and push the defender around the edge, obviously developing. Obviously he needs to continue that and yes he is raw and inconsistent some, but the stuff I saw he can fix. He's not weak first of all, moves well, and as shown by improvement in short time is willing to work. He ain't no Joe Staley, but we might be over reacting to how bad everyone thinks he is. He improved from the first two games. One play where the defender got to CJ and caused a fumble or pick behind the line, was actually a screen. Skule contacted his defender then immediately went to the second level to start blocking. CJ just took too long to get rid of it. Kid has potential to be absolutely serviceable, we should not count him out yet.

One of the worst things tackle can do against an edge rusher is to give up their chest.

Right, agreed. However that's one play? As has happened to every person in the NFL to play the position, difference is Skule is a Rookie not a vet. Even the vets make mistakes however Skule is clearly in development not a state of managing his skills. If you think he sucks because of a couple busts, in particular against one of the premier rushers in the league then in can see why you've convinced yourself already the dude is trash.

Dude better develop fast because he's got a long line of killers waiting for him starting with TJ Watt on Sunday and Myles Garrett after the bye.

Dee Ford, Bosa and Buckner will *Skule* him on how to deal with elite DLine defenders!

I would move McGlinchey to LT and Skuke to RT until Staley returns

Shanahan already addressed this. Why change at two positions when you can change at one?
Elite edge rushers come from both sides these days. There's only downside in moving Glinch.
