The blind side tackle is still important but not as much as it used to be. So many formations that get the ball out quickly or have the QB moving. Not like the old days when the QB took the 5 or 7 step drop and sat in the pocket.

I'm more worried about the run game tbh

Tryna put on a positive spin:
1) A tibia fracture would be season ending but the Fibula isn't weight-bearing. That's why big man was walking around on a broken leg. He should come back 100%. Low risk of set-backs; no surgery; just a walking boot for 6-8 weeks.
2) Kyle runs 2 TE and 2 RB sets a lot. Skule (or whomever) is gonna need some help, but Kyle will be able to scheme that in. He'd be dumb not to, and he isn't dumb.
3) Kyle also does a lot of designed rollouts, quick passes, screens, and misdirection. That's a lot easier on a young tackle than protecting 5 step drops.

I think it was Jack Youngblood of the Rams that played an entire game with a broken leg. Must have been his fibula.

I must be dumb but I thought Mitch Hyatt from Clemson should have been drafted at LT instead of Skule. He is on the Cowboys practice squad so we can get him to play for the niners. his Pre season was better than Skules.

Not a bad idea actually. He'd be a decent fit in this offense.

I don't know anything about Hyatt, but we definitely need some help at tackle. I'd like to see us land a vet, personally, if only to mitigate the learning curve. Gotta be a few journeymen out there at least semi-familiar with Kyle's system.

If LT is a training ground now, you might as well go young x2 and see how it goes. You never know until guys start to develop in real NFL games. There's just no replicating it.

Fair. But I'd also like to make the playoffs this year. It isn't a trash season like 2018.

- NFL Pick 'em
I just watched all the snaps Skule took after he replaced Staley.
Obviously, he wasn't asked to do a lot but what he did, run blocking, was just fine. Of course the Bungles were tired and ready to go home, but he pushed them around pretty well. Took good angles. Got his feet tangled up a bit with a DL on a bubble pass out to Deebo where he was supposed to get out and block the safety who made the tackle. No PP assignments.

True but what other options do we have at this stage?

Swing mcglinchy 2 RT and sign the best OT that has experience in shanahans system in free agency right now for depth..we are 2-0 and have momentum for the first time in years beginning the season..we can't afford Jimmy g getting injured cuz our 7th round backup LT got smoked by one of these great NFL type pass rushers he will have to face every single play for 2 months or so
