If Skule legit plays well it's definitely our year, what year have we lost someone to a significant injury and actually didn't miss the guy because the next man stepped up?

Get him out there and lets see how he handles himself before we start worrying about the OL. No use complaining about it unless he starts showing some bad film.

Lets say he plays great. What do we do when Joe Staley come back?

Starting to feel that way after reading in to the positive comments...Shanny's gonna play serious chess with Tomlin

We'll all be stoked knowing that we have a legit back up... Staley will regain his spot

We put him in the starting lineup and high five each other because we got a legit backup. If that happens we gonna make some serious noise.

I think he may surprise some people. The staff kept him above Young and Brunskill, and a bunch of other guys they had in or looked at.
Just before the cuts, I did a bunch of research on him and Brunskill. Both are former TEs that converted to OT. Skule had two years at OT in the SEC. Brunskill only one year but made second team all-conference. Brunskill is more raw but has the skill set Kyle wants. Skule is more polished of the two, just needs to get his pad level down for more power. (Let's see, do we know anything about TEs who converted to OT and did well in the pros? )
I went back and watched the 22 plays he was in Sunday. He won all of them except for one where he was stalemated. He was taking good angles and moving people. Only 2 passing plays and neither required him to hold anyone out for an extended period.
Good point about quick passing. You don't need Left OT's to hold for more than 4 seconds in Kyle's system. 2.5 to 3.5 seconds is a good enough time for, I bet, 80% of Kyle's passes in this offense.
What was his pre draft analysis?
50/50 to make an NFL roster.

They were wrong, obviously it ended up being 100%.

Good article on Skule
Thanks!!
"As a senior, Skule allowed only one sack in 473 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. That sack – a sack-strip surrendered to Kentucky's Josh Allen – ended Vanderbilt's hopes of a late-game comeback. Skule managed to hold his own against Allen, whom he considered the best pass-rusher he faced, for most of the game."

Tim Ryan is a bit of a homer, but he said in the preseason that he would not be surprised if both Brunskill and Skule made the roster. Both showed great improvement in camp, FWIW.

I'm hopeful that he will be able to just not be a disaster. But I'm fairly certain he will be. Hopefully shanny's scheming/jimmy's release can mitigate that.
