Just watch the replays....

That might be troublesome against Garrett...
it should worry every niner fan. we were actually told the steelers defense was not that good by some.. most of us knew that was false and people need to remember this is a 6th round pick who played like it. jimmy can not take that punishment moving forward esp with myles and better defenses. and the steelers were dang good.. coming up

OL has no depth. If someone else gets injured see JG hits go up. Might need to spend up on some FA Olers and sharpen up the coaching staff. This is on FO not Skule or any other individual player. Skule did the best he could. But JG still got hit too much.

The pressure JG was under did not help him either. He had to throw too early at times and did not have time to move through his progressions properly because of the pressure. JG is a tough SOB but everybody can break and without him we have seen what happens. Investing in the OL is insurance that JG will last uninjured for a long time.

I mean, he's a 3rd stringer.....not like the FO planned in him playing this year. The backup got hurt, then the starter, I don't know if any teams 3 deep on tackles....

Do any of y'all?

Honestly is that D really good? Or did SF just drop some easy catches and put the ball in the ground a ton? They moved up and down the field all day. I think they had what three fumbles in the RZ two of which had zero to do with that defense.

Imo Skule wasn't horrible, I'd like to see that Fitz INT to see who let up that pressure. They had Toilolo on his side and chipped a lot with TEs/RBs. McG needed to play better (granted Watt is a stud) and person let Hayward roll past him to kill Jimmy G early in the game.

That interior OL has played vs some of the best DTs in the league thru 3 weeks and overall played well. No Joe is a huge blow, but overall the OL isn't a massive issue at all. The only thing that's really hurting this team is themselves and dumb turnovers.

That appeared to be Person's man. This was a playfake where he was pulling to the left as if he was going to run block, and it looks like he stumbled out of his stance and wasn't able to get over to block the left DE in time due to that.

At one point we had our 4th and 5th tackles in the game and still were able to run the ball. I honestly dont know where people get their expectations from on o line depth.

Definitely worrisome vs Browns. Saw them vs Jets and it looked like Myles was trying to hurt the QBs, which he did.

He looked like he was trying to hire QB's cause he was coming unblocked. How the Jers let that guy go unblocked, I'll never know

Lol for sure. But that's also why I'm saying it. He'd have an easy clean sack and he'd slam these skinny QBs down full force, throwing all his body weight on them. I know it's part of the game but not something I wanna see happen to jimmy at all.

Rookie Justin Skule, who made his first-ever start at left tackle, was prominent with two holding penalties and a controversial blind-side hit on a Steelers defender that sent the 49ers to their own 9-yard line.

"Obviously I would never try to hurt anyone," Skule said of the play. "I was trying to lead with my shoulder. I didn't want him to hit Jimmy. My job is to protect the quarterback. That's what I was trying to do. I was just trying to make sure he didn't get to the quarterback. I'll look at it and learn from it for sure."

Otherwise, Skule had an inconspicuous outing — which is exactly what coaches want from an offensive lineman.

"The fact that I didn't talk about him much throughout the game — I think he did very well," Shanahan said. "… I know he had those penalties, which I couldn't really tell what he did on them. But anytime you go through a whole game like that and you've got a rookie starting for his first time and the play caller isn't bringing up his name left and right — 'What happened?' — that means he did a pretty good job."

Shanahan, of course, made sure he didn't put Skule in many difficult situations. Tight end Levine Toilolo, who usually lines up on the right side of the offensive line, spent a lot of time next to Skule on Sunday. The 49ers also had 40 running plays and 33 pass plays.

Still, Skule didn't act like a rookie, which is why he was given the starting nod in the first place.

"He handled himself like a pro in there," Juszczyk said. "He had big shoes to fill with Joe Staley (out). But I didn't see him waver at all in the huddle. He had this calm, quiet confidence to him. He didn't need anyone to help him out with, 'Hey, on this play you need to do this.' None of that. He was on top of it. He was a pro."

It would be huge if he could become a serviceable backup for us to pair with Coleman. Granted, always look to upgrade but he held his own with help. If Benton can get him to hold his own on his own more, Kyle can open up his playbook some more like in week 2.
He got a serious test coming his way next game.

Hopefully we wont be letting him come free. I have more faith in our staff than the Jets
Good for you rook

so far its good to know no draft capital will be used up unless he just completely s**ts the bed.
Skule played okay for a 3rd string tackle playing his first game. Steelers were bringing heat all day and the entire line took turns getting beat. He got called twice for holding but the league is calling those a lot closer this year. That crack back block penalty was a joke. I know it was by the rules but if you can't block a guy when he is facing you then the league needs to put dresses on these guys. It's not like he blind sides the guy or chopped his knees out from under him.
I saw McGlinchey get beat on pass protection more than Skule. Aside from the penalties I thought Skule was solid.

it did sound like it. my intention was not to pick on the kid.. i guess i was just expressing general frustration of how many times jimmy got whacked.. we are lucky he never got hurt.. i also understand those who say there are no elite tackles out there to us to obtain. well there may be if you want to pay a price. our pass protection was poor in my opinion which is a broken record in the last few years. i was just expressing general concern about the health of our qb who won the game for us yesterday which is something nick or cj could not do
