Imo Skule wasn't horrible, I'd like to see that Fitz INT to see who let up that pressure. They had Toilolo on his side and chipped a lot with TEs/RBs. McG needed to play better (granted Watt is a stud) and person let Hayward roll past him to kill Jimmy G early in the game.

That interior OL has played vs some of the best DTs in the league thru 3 weeks and overall played well. No Joe is a huge blow, but overall the OL isn't a massive issue at all. The only thing that's really hurting this team is themselves and dumb turnovers.
their front four was the best we faced. ask jimmy. and with myles and others coming up. it will not get easier, i understand about the turnovers. but i was talking about pass protection for jimmy. i was also not trying to throw the kid under the bus

I don't want to be hard on Skule, but he got beat on several occasions. But, the Niners were just lucky that Garappolo got the ball out early, maybe earlier than he wanted.

Just watch the replays....

That might be troublesome against Garrett...
it should worry every niner fan. we were actually told the steelers defense was not that good by some.. most of us knew that was false and people need to remember this is a 6th round pick who played like it. jimmy can not take that punishment moving forward esp with myles and better defenses. and the steelers were dang good.. coming up

To be fair, Skule didn't allow any sacks and several of those hits were from on blitzes where there weren't enough men to block someone even when everyone did their job.

The Steelers were selling out on getting to the QB. They were gambling JG could not hit the hot read often enough to beat them. As the receivers gain more experience, teams will pay for that approach.
I watched him fairly closely, he played well. Most of the runs looked like he just had to get in the way. Did well in pass protection when 1 v 1.
A heck of a performance to build on.

I was worried he'd be getting smoked all day. Glad I was wrong.

That appeared to be Person's man. This was a playfake where he was pulling to the left as if he was going to run block, and it looks like he stumbled out of his stance and wasn't able to get over to block the left DE in time due to that.

Yup you're correct!

No I know....what I saying is overall Skule actually didn't play that poorly. He had some poor penalties late in the game but overall he's wasn't a massive liability.

i did not not mean to make it sound like i was hating on him.. i think all the guys did their part to mess up at times. but jimmy over came. it sounds like skule has a good head on his shoulders and will be working to get better

I know you weren't really hating on him, this was what I was originally commenting on though...

I don't think he played like a 6th rounder...overall he actually wasn't that terrible for a 1st start vs a Pitt team that's always been able to get after the QB.

I also don't see our OL as something we had fans have to be worried about. Yes they didn't play to the elite level they did the first two weeks. I'm sure losing Joe was a part of that. They gave up 8 QB pressures a 1 sack. If you look at the Pitt OL (which is regarded as top 5) they gave up 22 pressures (on 27 pass plays) and 2 sacks. That's stupid.

This is a good time for a bye imo.
Might've found the backup swing tackle. Possible starter maybe

I'll gladly take okay for a 6th rd rookie vs Pitt. McG imo played subpar and Person seemed to trip or something on that pressure that lead to the INT.

I was impressed with his upper body strength. There were several times when his punch just stopped the momentum of the DL he was working against.

Lyunch's assessment was right on - he isn't pretty but he doesn't get pushed around.

If he continues to improve, that 1st round pick earmarked for a Left Tackle can be used to take a shot a Chase Young.

But yeah if ShanaLynch continues to hit a home run (assuming Skule wins a starting job a couple of years from now) drafting well in the day three rounds *and* in UDFA, the Capanomics will be easy to handle going forward.

Considering he's a 3rd stringer, 6th round rookie against that Dine, I'll take that performance any week.
