This OZ block scheme seems to be pretty plug and play dating back to the rat. RB's and O-linemen seem to be pretty easy to find and don't necessarily need to be high draft picks. Not to take anything away from the skills these guys have, but seems their skills, while vital to our system, are not valued throughout the league...
eh, I don't think it is that simple.
In this pass dominated league, there are not a lot of HCs looking to base their offense on an OZB run scheme. First of all, there are not many who know how to design it so it works. It is one thing to claim to use the scheme but another to actually make it work in a game.
As in Bill Walsh's day, it starts with mobile linemen that are big enough to slow down a larger fattie. The next things is RBs who can read, run and receive well. The fact the Shanahans have had so much success with lowly regarded RBs speaks to their ability to both design and call plays that work.
In the end, it comes down to fitting square pegs in square holes. Kyle knows what works and that makes it look more plug and play than it actually is, IMO.
