Sounds like just about everyone else on our OL minus Trent

LOL.

well not totally true. Richburg has been regarded as one of the best pass-blocking centers in football. Trent Williams is just amazing at everything and Brunskill has been an above avg (to very good) pass-protector in his small sample size. Run-blocking not so much.

I guess that means all three can be expected to be backups soon then. LOL.

Haha. You got it!

Let's hope so. I do have high Hope's for all three, that's for sure.
The C position still concerns me...while Garland's done a decent job, he's not a starting NFL C, IMHO. Richburg's performed well when healthy...but, that's been the problem, now 2 serious injuries since becoming a Niner. He also had some injury issues while a Giant. If this pattern continues, the brain trust will have to make a decision to keep going w/Richburg, or cut their losses and move on with a different C. I don't know if Reynolds would be part of that evaluation...Iowa OL have historically been good and versatile. I think part of WR's issues are he's a bit undersized for the position...I think his body just breaks down...and that could well be problematic moving forward.
My guess is the 49ers will draft a Center next season and trade Richburg away. Richburg is a good player but he gets hurt every season. I'm not sure if they'll trust one of the most important positions in offense to a project player like Reynolds. I wanted them to draft Cesar Ruiz for this exact reason.

Shanahan seems to favor veteran centers. My guess is that based on the complexity of Shanahans offense, the center must be S-M-A-R-T and experienced.

AGree. Reynolds was one of the undrafteds I was pulling for last year, and he made the practice squad. However, he never made the 53 despite all our OLIne injuries last year. So, yeah, the depth of the center position does worry me, and so does the depth of the cornerback position.

But I think there is more potential depth at the interior OLine position than the cornerback position. I think I have to toss Ross Reynolds into the picture at center this year, in addition, I think any of the young guards we have on the roster can cross train at center, and McKivitz has played (I think) all 5 positions in college. I would love for ShanaLynch to draft a dominating center high in next years draft, but between a DLineman vs an OLineman in the first round -- we all pretty much know Kyle's most likely going for a DLineman.

I had high hopes for Reynolds, but I hear next to nothing about him during the season or in camp. Normally the good players generate some chatter.

Not practice squad guys. Not during a pandemic with no OTAs/Minicamps.
I was very intrigued by this guy coming out. I'll keep an eye on him this pre season to see how much stronger he is, more refined, etc.

I was talking about last year.

based on what?

i have always been a fan. behind the scenes he is getting better and he is a guy to keep an eye on in pre season. could end up being a big positive on our line

our team had always been a GUARD to CENTER type of team.. This was always been our style each time an OG doesn't work out..

he already made the team and stayed on the team so he must be showing the coaches something. iowa can not produce a quarterback or a wide out to save their lives but do well with tight ends and o line guys

If Ross can be the George Kittle of Centers, I"d be VERY happy!
