We already know the battle of the OL's.

Right now the metrics lean in their favor in both.

I'd give Philly's D-line the edge against our O-line right now. D-line, eh...last year we only had DPOY Bosa and AA. Now AA is our 3rd best guy and Hargrave is 1b to Bosa. Randy Gregory is literally the 4th guy. I think it'll be a far more tough matchup for them this year. With that said, I trust us to score more than they do, no matter what kind of game it is- given we play a clean game.

I'd give our D line the edge over their O line, but where we have the real advantage is in coaching. I have more faith in Kyle to scheme around any weakness than I do the Philly cheerleader. Additionally, it is looking like Hurts is falling more prey to the league figuring him out than Purdy.

This is really going no where now.

i think you are missing the point. The DL is doing its job and then some by
1) eliminating the run game
2) forcing the QB to get rid of the ball very fast

just because it isn't showing up on the box score doesn't mean they arent doing their job. There is a reason our defense allows the least amount of explosive plays and on the pass defense side we allowed the least amount of net passing yards/attempt

You laid it out very nicely. Better than I was I think. Thank you.

No, I get the points both of you guys are making but you guys are missing mines lol.........but like I said this is going no where now and is getting repetitive lol... so I'll just leave it at that. To each his own.

I get your point. There is room for improvement. But there is room for improvement for every single position group on the team.

Agreed Buddy.

I'm hoping our Dline plays with more physicality and imposes their will against their Oline this year.

Same. I'd give the edge to our DL overall over theirs but there's is probably slightly better at pressures/sacks. I'd give the edge to them on the OL but the gap has closed quite a bit so far from last year. If you love the battle of the trenches, this one is a dream matchup. The number of 1on1 matchups will be epic. Then it just comes down to the QB's when the trenches are so even and trading blows like that. Pick 'em.

Eagles have the number 1 run defense as well. It's insane how good Jalen Carter has been.

Im referring to the matchup of our Dline verses their O-line. I don't see their O-line dominating us the way they did in January. But I also think their Dline will win against our Oline.

In spite of that, I think our offense will score more and shut them down more. With a QB like Purdy, Kyle should be able to beat Philly. I think we all are in agreement.

True. I'm a bit biased but to your point, the metrics do give them the edge ATM. They've really emphasize the trenches and I hate them for that. LOL

Ultimately, that's what Trench Warfare is all about! I can't wait to go up against them. If we can win that one in Philly, I love our odds against the AFC representative.

Jalen Carter is a rotation guy. He has been a really solid interior pass rusher. He really isn't asked to play the run though.
With all of the attention given to the O-line, I'm thinking, what does the D-line need?

1) Run stuffing nose tackle type. I'm looking for the next DJ Jones. Hargrave and AA are amazing. Kinlaw is having a really good year. I expect Kinlaw to be gone next year if he earns a big contract, so there will be room on our defense for a monster space eater.

2) Speed rusher. Yes we traded for Randy Gregory, but I will not assume that him being here next year is a given. We want that edge rusher opposite of Bosa and it would be ideal if said player was inexpensive. We have Drake Jackson, we now have Randy Gregory , and I am curious about Robert Beal, though I doubt he sees the field much unless he REALLY impresses in practice.

3) Defensive end that is comfortable playing inside and outside. Strong run defender that can give us some good pass rush snaps whether on the inside or outside.

I think it's a given we draft the first player and third players, because even if we do get Kinlaw another year, that 5th year would be a gift, and if he has two good seasons under his belt (or even just continues on his current trajectory with this season), he can earn starting pay elsewhere, netting us a day 3 pick. The third player will be necessary for depth.

I think option two depends on what happens with Gregory, Jackson, and Beal going forward. The best part about this is that we do not have to use a 1st or 2nd to address any of these needs and still get a quality player.

Definitely need a speed rusher. And a younger version of Kerry Hyder that can play inside and outside and be solid at both.

Eagles playing it real smart with him in that sense. Rookies can run out of gas adjusting to the NFL, but he'll still be good come playoff time.

Solid, would be an understatement.

All told, Carter has racked up 25 pressures -- nine more than any other rookie defensive tackle in their first five games during the Next Gen era.

It seems like the DL has become so oversaturated d/t the league overdrafting them, there are always DL available in FA and trades...and cheaper too. My guess is they'll continue to recycle their usual team building strategy here esp. because they already have young players there still developing.

And I agree with your needs here. We could use an immovable hog inside at 1T and some 3-cone electricity on the outside "with a plan."
