I would like to see McGill too. He isn't a splashy player but that's not what this run defense needs. Just someone that can give 12-15 snaps of being immovable. Sit Givens or Kinlaw.

Or sign Suh

Been watching 2022 49er games I this game stood out for me the most because of that goal line stand. And McGill I think played solid vs the run in this game, sure he only had a hand full of snaps but it's not like he was just another body out there giving a starter a breather, McGill was actually pretty effective. We need him to suit up. I like Givens vs the pass next to Hargrave but I think the problem is all these wasted snaps Kinlaw is getting. Kinlaw gets pushed outta the play more times than McGill gets snaps in a game, I just don't know what they see in Kinlaw besides being a big body but has terrible leverage. Get Suh or Akiem Hicks in here and watch the run defense get a spark.

I'm a Miami fan and you reminded me of when we passed on Wilfork, traded back, and drafted Rashuan Woods.

Hicks. Suh is gonna want 15 million. The only thing that makes sense with Kinlaw is that he will play himself into a contract that will net a 7th round comp pick.

Not gonna happen at this point, he is what he is, he just sucks , another first round bust

Pretty much. I just don't get it. We'll see if the gameday roster changes any once we approach the end of the season. It will be criminal to start Kinlaw even ahead of McGill if this conitnues.

It's crazy given all the draft capital that there are still holes in this defense. I get that they tried to fill them, but damn. Coming up in this draft, a run stuffing DT that can provide some pass rush presence is sorely needed. And since we would like a player that can give us more than 2 downs, we're going to have to draft them earlier than we did DJ Jones. I'm hoping we pick this player in the 3rd or 4th. Should be looking for a player that has the potential to replace AA. And we still need more edge guys. Chase Young will be gone and even if we decide to keep Randy Gregory, a 3rd man is needed. I'm not so certain Drake Jackson is that player and he isn't going to get a lot of snaps the rest of the year to find out. I'm not giving up on him as a player. Just thinking, we may not see what we need from him for quite some time due to opportunity.
I'm watching the Ravens/Hawk game. Must admit I'm very impressed with the Ravens big boys on their DL. They are everything our DL isn't. Big 325 pounders who stop the run and collapse the pocket. No finesse like the Niners, just pure muscle!

Just magnifies that AA is toast and Hargrave isn't big enough.

That one still hurts!

Solid post!
I'd have to ask some on here who know a lot more about D line play than me, but does the lack of pressures/sacks have anything to do with ack of chemistry? On paper we've added what seems like far better personnel, but maybe they just need to gel? Like an O line that needs to work as a unit, rather than a handful of individuals, can this be something that can be fixed with more familiarity?

I'm now convinced the entire Niners team is like a Ferrari. Ferrari's are great when they are finely tuned and running well. But they are finesse cars, they are persnickety and prone to breaking down.

These last three games clearly show what happens to a finesse team when they are not properly tuned and all the parts are not broken. What I worry about with this finesse team is we have a smaller margin of error compared to say the Ravens who are more like a reliable Ford F50 who will come in and beat you down with pure reliability and strength.

There are elements of group DL play where chemistry is important like caging in a QB, overlapping a vacated gap, game/stunts, etc. That said, pass rushing is ultimately about beating the guy across from you 1-on-1.
Interior DL are doing their thing.

I want Mcgill to start over Kinlaw too.

So the main problem is the DB's, defensive backfield, not the pass rush
