The only issue I had in the pass game were the penalties.

In the run game, it was the terrible setting of the edge. I don't know if we need to put someone else outside like Kinlaw, Givens, or bring in someone like Hyder or Jordan Willis, but we gotta get that fixed.

that would be ideal but its tough because you are giving up on pass rush

Really the only weakness on DL is Chase young not setting the edge which is why i think he hasn't been given the snaps. That side of the DL is allowing a lot of outside runs. I feel like our run d down the middle is fine

They can load up on run defense by putting AA/Bosa at DE, then Kinlaw and Joseph-Day at DT.

Anyone notice how Joseph-Day performed last game? I know he was on the field but did not spotlight him.

I saw him one time and he looked extremely slow and out of shape. He is definitely a two-gapper who isn't accustomed to running as much as the DL do in our system.
Someone in another thread said that Kerry Hyder is available. Wouldn't mind having him in rotation

I think at least 3 sacks on Goff are necessary.

Pressure is more important in the long run but sacks can kill drives and flip the field.
We always beat Goff because our pass-rush was relentless but now I don't trust the D-line to get decent amount of pressure/sacks against him.

Also the Rams always had a bad O-line but the Lions have one of the best O-lines in pass-pro.

Goff is gonna have a lot of time to find his receivers.

If the Lion's OLine negates the 49er DLine, it would be another track meet kind of offensive game. However, most teams that beat us have used that quick passing to negate the pass rush and then the quick runs to make sure they are never in long yardage pass rush situations. That exposes them to more short passing interception opportunities. One turnover will probably end the Lion's season in my opinion. On the other hand the 49er offense (if Deebo is healthy) is very explosive. Any of the 49ers all pro's can go the distance in one play.
IMO, we need to force a lot of 3 & outs.

Then long time-consuming drives and TD's.

The Lions are really dangerous - and their OLine is very solid.

Hope all the coaches have creative game plans.
We should look at what the Ravens did against Detroit and try to replicate that.

They couldn't get to Lamar, they couldn't stop the run, and guys were wide open all game.

That said, I think they were missing CJG.

Ravens got to Goff a lot too. I guess it goes without saying, obviously we need to play much better in all phases.

This DL has been sadly overrated this year. Not one sack against the packers. Bosh hasn't had a sack since the Cardinals game. Who's to blame for this…

I don't think these guys suddenly forgot how to get sacks, so I'm leaning towards scheme

some plays i see them locked up with the OL and just watching the QB.. not really trying to move until the QB gets close to them

Goff has 3 rushing yards in the last 5 games.. this guy isn't going to move.. we need to attack instead of watching him

Same. I mean were winning, but tbh with this roster on defense it feels like we should be more dominant.

I was watching the "OL committee" podcast (Alex Boone) and he said that DET does not like to give their OL help with chip blocks. They understandably have a lot of confidence in their OL to pass block well without help. If this holds true, then Bosa will get to work 1 on 1 against a good OT, whether it's Decker or Sewell.

I think the real key in this game is pressure up the middle, right into Goff's face. Need AA and Hargrave to take turns winning their matchup. If/when Wilks chooses to blitz, let it be up the middle.

It's weird because right after Bosa called out the scheme and they got Young, it seemed to go back to normal and they went on a tear. Now it's just kind of blah again

When Sewell was a rookie, Bosa beat him a few times, but damn, it was a very impressive debut for a rookie tackle. I think Bosa is going to want to switch sides and opt to against Decker. Poor Chase.

Probably going to see the 49ers dial up a few overload fronts(ie boss front) to get Bosa 1-on-1 with Decker and put Armstead over Ragnow to test that knee. Best way to stress a knee/ankle's flexion is with power.

Go back to 5 DL, to truly get 1v1 on early downs and give AA the best oppt ?
