we go with how we started the season.. 5-2-4 on early downs

That could be the answer. This also provides a wider front to help contain the off tackle runs. Not a huge fan of this if KC decides to pass the ball when they see the five DL.

Didn't they start doing that in the 2nd half of the Lions game?

Not sure, but they went to man coverage so the LBs would be better run support compared to when they were in zone.

I'm pretty sure I didn't see it (5DL front) vs DET. I don't think I've seen it since like week 6ish, or something like that. And when Wilks used it early in the season, it was very sparingly, like 2-3 times a game.

The last time I remember seeing 5 DL was vs Jacksonville. I can't recall seeing it since.

hm ok that's week 10. Yeah, late late season, did not see it. I wonder what the logic is when using it, and who came up with it, Wilks or Koceruk. It has to be for run defense because it's very predictable what the QB will see when they drop back to pass, man coverage. Maybe it's the team daring the QB to pass. "look, we have 5DL, you better not run it".

IIRC, it was Hargrave who pitched it in the off season as it was something effective coming from Philly.
I think they haven't used the 5-man front after the bye week and I'm glad it only worked against the Giants and the used it on passing downs.
The 9ers stop the run, they win.

I see them winning on Sunday and winning next year.

Stop the run
Interesting comments from Lynch on the poor defensive performance in the first two playoff games: First comment: "It's been addressed." Second comment: "I really would be shocked if we saw that again."

So, uh, anyone care to address what Lynch actually means? Does this mean some changes? Extra pop tarts for Chase Young? Chase Young on the bench? Dee Ford comes out of retirement? Singletary? Anyone?
All super stars. Super highly paid. But massively under achieve.

It's just rah rah talk to make the fans say see something happening. It's been the same all season.

I disagree. Maybe lately but not overall. 7 sacks from a DT is a good number and he was our best D lineman the first half of the season.

He just means, it's on film how poorly they played, tackling, how undisciplined they played and the effort to finish plays was poor by quite a few players. They've been called out.

Expect gang tackling, playing through the whistle and a far better performance overall next weekend.
we need Kinlaw/Givens and Armstead to eat blockers at the LOS so Fred and Dre don't get neutralized like this. They will do a better job. Posting this pic just for discussion. Look at the hole, you could drive a truck though it.

Everyone on the WZ knows I love Fred, but this is one of those rare instances where he blew his assignment.

Hargave playing high and gets turned inside out and they walled off AA (?) too on the other side. Credit to that OL too. But yeah, Warner read that wrong. Clearly.

When you re-watch the play, AA actually gets away with a sneaky hold on the left guard* and keeps him from climbing to Fred, but Fred reads it wrong and ends up out of his gap.
