just watched jonnydel breakdown and all our FA d lineman suck. Gross Matos and Elliot look like trash. Campbell sucks. They wre leaving a back up LT on a island alone to block Bosa. And Bosa couldn't beat the guy. We've added bad players to our defense with a rookie DC. s**t and that's just the front 7. Not a good recipe.

I don't think we can ever say this team didn't address D-line. Dline and RB have had an enormous amount of resources poured into it.
The difference is with RB they have spent draft capital outside of CMC. For the d line it's been a ton of FA signings. Bosa and Dj Jones are is the only good d lineman this regime has drafted. Sadly they just spent a ton of money on d linemen and the results are pretty rough. Not sure how it gets better with Hargrave out.
Have you forgotten Thomas and Kinlaw? Along with Bosa, that's 3 of the 7 first round picks the team has had. Then to add the money spent in free agency you brought up, trades for Jordan Willis, Charles Omenihu, Randy Gregory, and Chase Young, I'd say no team has invested more in Dline. We have invested every type of capital you can invest in Dline.
One of the issues some fans have had for years is the obsession with Dline while neglecting Oline.
I didn't forget them. They just sucked.

Id trade for Haason Reddick & Azeez Ojulari at the deadline. Get as many capable bodies as possible to rush the passer. Then bank on my offense outscoring everybody as they get healthier, putting pressure on the opponent to keep pace on the scoreboard, making them one-dimensional https://t.co/oTE0wiwSTa

I'd love Azeez. Wanted him years ago. Reddick I don't think is realistic. I wonder how serious he is about a new deal.

I wonder what was Floyd's win rate last year. Much has been said about his 9 or 10 sacks a year, but what kind of quality were those sacks? If it's all cleanup stuff, we might be in trouble.
As for the other players, I blame it on an overall bad game + how they were used.

seemed better today albeit against Patriots. It should have looked like this vs the rams too.
i would like to see how elliot and anderson looked.
91 made plays.
I thought collins played really well.

91 and 99 looked good with strong motors. Bosa was his usually very good self , but I feel like he takes himself out of plays at times. Hes doubled snd chipped like mad tho. The other guys have to make them pay.
And you're right. The NE line is actually worse than ours so they should have wreaked havoc.

Oooo we may be getting Davis back sooner than I thought. I hope he can contribute.

He'll probably play 1-2 series then reinjure something and go back to the bench.

.@49ers defensive line feasted on the Patriots. Start studying the roster. Lots of new faces; new names to study. Same results #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/2DOAIhp4Ay

I've seen more 2-point edge rushing from our ends under Sorenson in 4 games than under Saleh/DeMeco/Wilks. Kocurek has always been clear that he has no issues letting guys rush standing up but that getting in the dirt is the best way to generate an explosive first step. I wonder if this change is Staley's influence, or simply that they've brought in ends who are more comfortable rushing standing up.
Also, I wonder if we're going to see more ends dropping in coverage as the season progresses.

Oh but Kocurek can make any DL a stud. That is all I have heard for years. Yet the dline continues to suck.

Maybe he can't. He's had an embarrassment of talent. Next to Bobby Turner, but Turner has come through with Breida, Wilson, Mitchell, and now Mason. We haven't seen that from Coach K in some time, if ever. His best lines were littered with 1st round picks and Ronald Blair.

The line is bad imo. In 2019 - dominant. Now only bosa. The rest are just bodies and get pushed around.
Crazy given how much they invested there the last 7 years but I bet you next draft is a dt again and it probably needs to be.

What we clearly are missing is that talented depth I think. One of the years when we had buck and Arik and behind them was talented depth and we would rotate 4 guys in to keep them fresh. Those were the days we had an elite front 4. I don't know if it's because of the high priced salaries we have now that we can't go back to that?
