The line didnt seem to be the biggest problem in the run D. Not an expert but the lineman seemed to shoot their gaps like they are supposed to but the LBs had the responsibility of reading 2 gaps... and either hesitated or guessed wrong. Probably just getting acclimated to new scheme responsibilities. But looking at the highlights, the LBs werent crashing gaps like in the past... seemed like they are tasked with the 2 gap responsibilities and just got ran over while trying to figure which gap to go for and caught flat footed rather than going downhill.

49ers play a 1-gap scheme across the board. This is from one of Kocurek's former players, who was responding to our very own NC after being asked about Kris Kocurek's scheme upon arrival to SF:

Does that address the linebackers? Just saying on those long runs the LBs seemed to be caught diagnosing the play so that the guards were already on top of them rather than running downhill. On a couple of those long runs you could see LBs jumping the wrong direction rather than filling the hole but flat footed all the same.

The linebackers gap only changes based upon the side the play is going to. For Example, Mike will usually have Strong side A and Weakside B, Will Weakside B or Weakside C, SAM strongside C or Strong side A

That's strong side run first, weakside run 2nd in gap listings.

First clip is of Warner calling out Greenlaw for missing his gap.

yeah, Greenlaw reads it as a windback play and goes to attack the strong side A gap(which would be his responsibility on a windback) but it wasn't a windback. Warner read it correctly and moves to fill the strong side A gap.

And from the man himself.

Game on!!
You have to give some credit to the Detroit O line. I saw one site that had them ranked 10th right behind the Niners. It seems like whenever one of our units doesn't operate like the fans think it should there is never any credit given to the other team. No matter how bad a team might be they always have some part that's good. It's like the 2019 SB where a lot of people didn't give credit to the KC defense. They wanted to focus on Jimmy's collapse or something like that. The other teams players are professionals too.

im in the middle of watching the condensed game for the eagles vs falcons

i have to say either the eagles have the best OL of all time or the falcons pass rush is the most pathethic i have ever seen because the pocket Hurts has almost every play is ridiculous

i think if our pass rush shows up eagles will have a tough time moving the bal.

Also you can see earlyon eagles ran a lot of RPO plays which our D and coaches will be ready for going for because its very similar to what we had Trey do in preseason

Yeah and their OL was moving the DL backwards about 4 yards on every run too. Our DL better be ready.

They have a good OL. Our interior DL are going to get worked by Brooks and Kelce without Kinlaw.

I saw what appeared to me to be a lot of holding going on - more than just Bosa. Was the amount of holding by the Lions that the refs missed typical of most games in general? It's really frustrating to have so much potential on the d-line being neutralized by refs missing what it seems like they should be seeing.
I've heard and seen a lot of comments about the officials and I'm wondering if they were told to not call things too closely since it was the 1st game and the pre season didn't allow a lot of reps for the starters. The last thing the league would want is a lot of stoppages for penalties on opening day. If that would have happened the fans would have been screaming that they need to let them play.

Okay, i never make a big deal out of refs, but cripes, having R arm held by one OL and L arm held by a second OL, and the NUMEROUS times Nick had somebody's forearm and upper arm in a chokehold around his neck.

There is a need for HC to talk to Umpire and refs , each and every one and show them on ipad just how much holding is being done,.. and especially on Nick. This is instant replay of 2019. Kyle is the one who needs to get aggressive with refs when the holding starts getting ridiculous like this. There are plenty others, just as blatant. This is a Kyle problem and has been all along.

Just a simple word to the refs and then again if more holding , and maybe the refs will start calling it. Sure easy to show on an iPad.

I don't know, go watch the replay of the PHI/ATL game. There were soooo many penalties on both sides.
