So, for the sake of comparison let's look at all teams' worst record years and then how they did 2 years later. The season before Kyle and John took over was tied for the worst season performance in team history(2-14, also in 2004). So, for the sake of fairness let's see how teams did 2 years after their worst year.

NY Jets 1996 1-15, 1998 12-4

Baltimore Ravens 2007 5-11, 2009 9-7

Cincinattie Bengals 2002, 2-14, 2004, 8-8

Cleveland Browns 1993, 3-13(didn't include the 0-16 season because this year will be 2 years removed from that), 1995, 5-11

Steelers 1969, 1-13, 1970, 5-9

Houston Texans 2002, 4-12, 2004, 7-9

IND Colts 1981, 2-14, 1983, 7-9

Jaguars 2012, 2-14, 2014, 3-13

Titans 2014, 2-14, 2016, 9-7

Broncos 1966, 4-10, 1968, 5-9

Kansas City Chiefs 2012, 2-14, 2014, 9-7

Chargers 2000, 1-15, 2002, 8-8

Oakland Raiders 2014, 3-13, 2016, 12-4

Cowboys 1989, 1-15, 1991, 11-5

NY Giants 1966, 1-12-1, 1968, 7-7

Eagles 1971, 2-11-1, 1973, 5-8-1

Vikings 1984, 3-13, 1986, 9-7

Falcons 1967, 1-12-1, 6-8

Carolina Panthers 2001, 1-15, 2003, 11-5

Saints 1980, 1-15, 1982, 4-5

Bucs 1976, 0-14, 1978, 5-11

Cardinals 2000, 3-13, 2002, 5-11

Rams 2009, 1-15, 2011, 2-14

Seahawks 2009, 5-11, 2011, 7-9

So, in summary, in the history of the NFL and the records 2 years after each franchises worst record years, there have been 11 out of 32 teams have winning records. There have been 0 SB wins. 12 out of 32 teams have had 5 wins or less 2 years removed from their worst season. Only 4 times in the history of the NFL have teams gone from their worst season to more than 10 wins in only 2 years.

4 times......

Geez.....who was the piece of s**t coach in Cleveland from 1991-95. I'll tell you this much...was under .500 his first 3 years and only had 1 winning season. That guy will never amount to anything in this league.....Mark. My. Words.

Also for us

1978 2-14
1979 2-14
1980 6-10

Always forget how this one turned out....probably should have fired that guy with an 8-24 record in his first 2 years. Kind of seems like that bum in Cleveland in the early 90's

I see what you did there.

Just in case no one has figured it out yet, that was Bill Bellichick......

Kind of a different animal based on what happened with each team. Every situation is different. Can't just compare W vs L without substance.

1990 NE Coach Rod Rust 1-15, fired
1991-1992 NE Coach Dick MacPherson 6-10, 2-14 then fired
Bill Parcells hired in '93

Of course there's more to it than W's L's but this was part of the conversation on how there's this thought that soooo many teams can just turn around a franchise in 2 years.

My point was to objectively look at the 2 year result after a teams worst year since that's what we had in 2016. Tied for the franchise worst year.

I get it. My point was multiple coaching staffs vs one coaching staff over the same period. Can't really compare them.

Now you're a real fan.
7-9 I'm not biting on all the homism this year. Ignoring our OL in the draft I think was a huge mistake.

Maybe Shanny thinks Jimmy G is more durable than I. Or thinks any member of our starting OL, will not face any injury.

Prediction: Sometime this year we will have some injuries that cause us to start someone not even on the team right now.

Hurd and Samuels will not "take off pressure off Jimmy", more likely he will not have enough time to throw to them quite often.

I'd rather them win 9 games instead of 6. I'm tired of being right.
8-7-1

That's better than average 8-8
Quick recap of Greg Cossell's 49er evaluation.
Likes the young wide receivers(Pettis,Samuel and Hurd). Thinks they can develop into a very good, not great corps.
Jimmy needs to get more consistent
O line is solid but not great. I'm guessing he says they're solid because of Staley and McGlinchey.
Defense has a chance to be great mainly because of the D line.

I would say he pretty much agrees wth most of the fans other than the O line where most of us see problems

Well, on the other side, that's the argument some on this forum will make, that you can. They'll look at the team as a whole for the past 4 years and say we should be better.

Also, trying to look at same coaching staffs after 2-14 seasons or 1-15 seasons.....that's more research than I care to spend time on. What I posted took me a half hour as it was.

11-5 if Jimmy G. stays healthy for a full season. 11-5 and a playoff berth. Without him, 6-10 at best.

FEARLESS FORECAST! Both the 49ers and Browns will sport surprising undefeated records when they meet on MNF during Week 5 of the regular season.
