We blew out the Bengals just as the Pats blew out the Fins and the Bengals are a better team, I'm not sure how that's covered?

Obviously the quality of the competition will influence the grades, however, you can only grade on what you see.

I did a quick check on Patriots v 49ers rankings:
OFFENSE
49ers are ranked higher than NE at G, T, & FB. Slight SF edge at HB. Kittle is Kittle. C goes to NE. Gordon, Edelman and Brady are who they are at WR and QB. All seem fair to me.

DEFENSE
NE has a significant advantage at safety and DI. LB is a wash. CB goes to NE but that is largely due to Sherman's three penalties in Week 1. Edge goes to SF although BB's system does not stress edge pressure like we do.

Overall, their rankings seem consistent between the two teams.
Thanks for keeping this updated!
PFF made some minor ranking changes today. Ratings all stayed the same.

For those following along: Dee Ford is sitting at #29 with a rating of 73. In KC, Frank Clark is at #88 with a rating of 59. KC has needed much defense so far but they certainly are not getting the edge pressure they had last season with Ford.

Still early.
Week two ratings are horrible. Way too low.

To clarify - the second rating number is cumulative, not for Week 2.

This will be the case going forward. Week 1 rating will stay but the second number will always be the cumulative of all games played.

So, for someone like Buckner, who had a good game against Cincy, his cumulative grade (67) is lower than his game grade because his Week 1 rating was only 52. He did not play up to his standard in week one.
Why did you feel that you had to say that Thomas has shown "notable improvement in the 2nd game" yet not highlight the FOURTEEN players who made an even larger leap from game 1 rating to total after game 2?

Just being ornery, I guess. Glad you were following along.

For all the others, they were obvious. Thomas went from "replacement" in Week 1 rating to "low average" in this past game.

I'll try to be less biased next week.

Haha fair enough, sir.

I thought the grades were pretty fair. WRs mostly got schemed open and DL did their job. IMO Alexander and Blair overarchieving a bit, but nothing wrong with them being in the right place at the right time and executing.
Thomas went from F to D-.
Mostert has looked like a different back. Could be an X factor if he gets a heavier workload.
Cautiously waiting to see the DL talent truly explode. Ford and Bosa are what they are. Looking for Armstead and Buckner to turn it up. Of the two, I can see Armstead flashing more if he keeps getting reps inside.
Week three numbers are in. The sample size is getting bigger so we are starting to see the ratings level off. However, there have still been some big jumps/drops.

K'Waun Williams had a big game and big jump. Sherman moves up after the three penalties in the first game. Buckner's great game moved him up. Blair had another excellent game as well, along with Alexander.

Jimmy is now #13 after a rocky start. The young receivers showing small moves up. Kittle is still Kittle = best TE in the league. Richburg had his best game despite the two guards struggling, albeit against high quality DTs.

McGlinchey had perhaps his worst game as a pro. Expect to see him bounce back after the bye.

Overall, the ratings/rankings reflect a pretty well-balanced team that is playing well together. Props to coaches, especially DL and secondary.

As expected with a big win and a 4-0 record, a lot of players have moved up. Only a couple went down. Pettis took the biggest drop...did I say "drop?" Fred Warner continues to struggle in run defense. He does not seem to be strong enough to shed blocks.

WR continues to be a weak area. It's the only category that is not at least "average." Not having a reliable slot hurts a lot. TT is missed. I expect to see more of Deebo in the future. Still hard to evaluate this group. Somebody will have to step up now with Juice on the shelf. ???

Much more to be said on the plus side:
OFFENSE
Skule was the center of discussion and he came out and played a good game. His overall rating of 67 now puts him at #22 OTs. He had some help with the scheme but when he had to make a block or PP, he held up well.
Brieda and Coleman both sit in the top 10.
Person continues to play well. This was his best game. Now #11 OG. Tomlinson #19
Kittle and Juice continue #1 at their position.
Jimmy moves to #12 with a 75 rating. 3 games is a row with a higher rating than the previous.

DEFENSE
Williams stayed in the top 3 CBs.
Moseley had a solid game. Now #20 at 73 rating.
Ward had a decent 65 rating in his first game which sets him at about #35.
Alexander #11 LB.
Four edge defenders all in the 80 "high quality" range:
Blair 89
Bosa 85
Armstead 82
Ford 80
for a team that struggled to get any edge pressure last year, there is plenty of it now.

Raw data is no replacement for the eye test but it does give a broader view than just seeing the few plays when the camera is on a guy. However, the numbers do show what the record shows - everybody playing average with a lot of guys in the high average to elite level. Teams win by not having any major weaknesses. Right now, WR is close to that but the run game is carrying the offense so that deficiency is masked to a degree.

Yea I've noticed that he's not making many plays so far this year. I don't see him filling any gaps Hopefully they work on that Yea at some point we gotta get a wr to step the f**k up. Good job on this

Thank you.

Warner is making tackles but often it is more dragging down the ball carrier as opposed to standing him up and limiting the gain. That is the main thing I see. The PFF numbers for his run defense have been consistent in all four games. Last year he was better. Not sure why. Demeco Ryans is likely working on it.
