It was even a better celebration than any other playoff win under harbaugh, even the falcon game to go to the super bowl.

It was so special it's up there with Dallas '94, Green Bay '98...

Agreed.
I had to watch this game at a late family Christmas party. The Bears fan in attendance were cheering for the 9ers with me. The Cowboy fans was completely anti 9er. That win felt so good to watch in the Cowboy fans house. Worst part of that game was losing Ginn and I dont need to elaborate why on this board.
This was the game When Alex Smith finally learned how to piss standing up. This would be his best game as a 49er. Too bad we couldnt beat the Giants i hate kyle williams.
Amazing game from one of my all time favorite 49ers squads

It hit me why this game is so special to a lot of 49er fans.

For many of us, we either weren't around for '81, or maybe we were alive but too young to watch (here here), and missed how special that season is. Only through 2011 can some of us begin to understand what '81 was like (that and the America's Game on it too). My 49er fandom essentially started after Montana won his 2nd super bowl, so I enjoyed about 13-15 years of a dominant team. I was what many people accuse Patriots fans now of being....having never seen pre-Brady...

For those of you who were there for '81, I imagine nothing will ever be as good as that. For the rest of us, 2011 was going to be our symbolic '81 and it just didn't happen.

I'll tell you what......if you could give me a ring for 2011, I'd have been perfectly fine for the Tomsula era having started the year after, LMAO. While I did enjoy the rest of the Harbaugh era and the Kap era, I'll take that one ring on a much underrated team, a true 49er team with Alex getting full redemption than what played out (despite that being very good).

The only good news is that we have another chance with Kyle and Jimmy. Not sure if this year is it, but I wager it's coming. I never imagined the disrespect could come so fast, but it did for our team. We never got that nice extended grace period other teams would get (like say the Ravens who sucked quite a bit after their last super bowl).

Enough time has passed from Harbaugh's last game that the 49ers have returned squarely to their Nolanterry perception. Would be epic if we can get it done this year.
You're right. Nothing, not even the SB, matched that win over Dallas. Everything after that was gravy.

Great post, man. I totally get it. I was only 7 in 1981, but old enough to fall in love with the team. The nostalgia during the 2011 season was real. Such an underdog team, playing together as one. It was a beautiful thing.

2011 was soooo sweet until you know. It culminated in that Saints game. We were back. In a different way than I remembered but it didn't matter we were back. That Saints game was just an epic heart stopper. So many twists and turns. I thought we might blow em out the way it started. They fought back then it was back and forth until the end. Vernon and Graham owned that game. Just freaking epic!
I was at that game!! The Vernon Post was coming towards us and it was amazing.
Best game I ever saw at the 'Stick.
I was fortunate enough to be at the 81' "catch" game as well as the game against the Saints.

What can you really say? Two of the greatest games in NFL history.

The crazy energy and feeling of utter euphoria as we left the 'Stick after those games is something I will never forget...
Justin Smith's bull rush. Epic.

But, just like the game played on my handle, another playoff win from a team that couldn't finish.
Someone had posted an epic fan reaction video on YouTube that showed tons of different fan reactions to Vernon's catch. I have been unable to find the video, which is unfortunate. It was an amazing video and an amazing win for the niners.
I want more of these games.
