Loved watching the JH or Fangio 49ers Defense play. Hated watching the JH offense play. Every game left something empty.

dude re-watching the 2011 Saints game, and then the 2012 Packers game both with Alex and Kap, it honestly didnt matter which one was under center. sure Kap gave the offense a spark because of his athleticism, upside, and teams not knowing how to defend him, but reagardless the offense as a whole just looked (easier to see this now after being so used to Shanahan) stubborn and inefficient in multiple ways. Shanahan's offense is so much smarter and more creative. I feel so goddamn spoiled and grateful to have Kyle

that 2012 secondary was nearly identical to 2011.

Tom had a 68 rating that game btw. He put up some yards and points but that will happen when you're down 28 and have to throw the ball 65 times. Did the same to Seattle's secondary when they were goat level.

They cameback and tied the game in the 4th when Justin Smith went out, as soon as that Brady made our defense look like Swiss cheese. The team needed a Lamichael James kickoff return and Crabtree touchdown to escape NE with a victory but our defense was toast after that game.

yeah really tapered off at the end of that year. Kap kept us alive and in the playoffs as well.

Willis was mediocre to kind of below average in pass-coverage, and Whitner was undersized and not that great in coverage either. However, our defense definitely tapered off towards the 2nd half of that 2012 season. Injuries we didn't know about at the time hindered Aldon and Justin smith. now, with Spoon and Sherman in I feel like our secondary is much more reliable and better equipped to handle a non existent pass rush, to an extent

Spoon was getting lit up without a pass rush last season. If for some reason Ford and Bosa got banged up and our pass rush dipped I wouldn't assume our secondary plays at it's current level. Saleh only blitzes at a 10% rate. A great d line is a requirement for his d because the corners will lose eventually.

why are you referring to last season with Spoon when he's been playing out of his mind this season? remember 2019 49ers vs 2011. Spoon did have a bad year last year, and has looked night and day this time around. that's why it sucks so bad he's out currently. we need him badly. if we lost pass rush currently without Witherspoon, im with you im not confident in our backend to hold it down. we need more pass rush than ever with him out
I'll never ever forget the defense letting Flacco look like Montana Jr in the super bowl. Just throwing up b******t passes all 1st half.

Because you made the comment our secondary will hold without a pass rush. We already know the answer to that based off the last 2 years.

This thread was a bad idea. Lol

yeah, I never foresaw so many getting triggered over the thought. I just found it fascinating and pondered about what it'd be like if these 2 teams faced off head to head in a game. that's all

I think Staley vs Staley would be a stalemate.

OT's dont go up against OT's though. so itd be like, Staley vs. Aldon Smith, and then Staley vs Nick Bosa

I get what you are saying. However, I was looking at it as 2011 position groups vs 2019 same position groups. Didn't really think about it as an actual head to head.

in my opinion he was never actually serious until he fired Baalke. I definitely hated him at one point, but you can't deny he's learned many valuable lessons and has learned.

Witherspoon hasn't benefited from a pass rush this season,( I mean, he has naturally of course 100%) but he's been making plays on his own and allowing hardly any catches that have come his way. I forget what yards he's allowing per target, but it's absurdly low. he just wasn't playing well last year on an individual level. and he played better the year before last year.

Yeah Sky was right our secondary was not as good as I remembered.

Like Eddie D did. Not sure how this is a negative.
