Loved watching the JH or Fangio 49ers Defense play. Hated watching the JH offense play. Every game left something empty.

dude re-watching the 2011 Saints game, and then the 2012 Packers game both with Alex and Kap, it honestly didnt matter which one was under center. sure Kap gave the offense a spark because of his athleticism, upside, and teams not knowing how to defend him, but reagardless the offense as a whole just looked (easier to see this now after being so used to Shanahan) stubborn and inefficient in multiple ways. Shanahan's offense is so much smarter and more creative. I feel so goddamn spoiled and grateful to have Kyle

Jed going through coaches like butter until he finally hit one.

Like Eddie D did. Not sure how this is a negative.

Because it isn't.

maybe wait till we beat a couple contenders and not barely beat scrub ass teams???? maybe???? NT.......
Hot take: that 2011 defense was legendary. Honestly one of the top Niner defenses of all-time, and would have been recognized as one of the best ever if they'd made the trip to the Super Bowl.

Hotter take: even though those offense "felt" limited, they were a lot better than you're giving credit for, especially 2012 when Kaep was putting insane YPA numbers. Gore was amazing, of course. The offensive line was just completely stacked -- again, one of the best Niner units at that position of all time.

Hottest take: if they played 10 times, the 2011 Niners would win 7 out of 10, and some of those wouldn't be close. The 2012 Niners would probably win 9 of 10 with several blowouts along the way.

I am super excited about this season and, maybe at the end of this year, I will see things differently. For now, however, we only have three games against "meh" teams vs. a two-year period (and honestly, we were pretty good in 2013 too...) of pretty absurd dominance.

2011 had better ol, lb and dbs

Rb and fb is a wash

Harbaugh is better than shanahan and fangio is much better than saleh

I think it's close but the 2011 defense prevails

with witherspoon in the lineup, 2019 easily has better DB's with him and sherman

I get that Kittle has been very good and will *probably* end up as the best Niner TE ever barring injury or free agency departure, but why does this forum continually underrate prime VD? Remember what he did to the Giants in that NFCCG? The Saints the week before? It's unfair to compare given Kittle's small sample, but VD was an amazing athlete and put up a ton of really good seasons from 2009-2013. Kittle just has the one to go off so far. OH AND LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT DELANIE FRICKIN' WALKER, the "second" tight end for those years.

How is RB and FB a wash? I get that our current RB stable is really good, especially for a bunch of undrafted dudes, but good lord...Frank Gore is AMAZING, and Kendall Hunter was not a slouch. We all had very high hopes for him until the 2012 injury. I have also seen way more consistency from Juice than I did from Bruce Miller, though Miller admittedly had his moments.

As to the responder's point about Witherspoon somehow making the difference, that's just insane. Also, don't forget that Brown and Cox were not slouches. Furthermore, our safeties now are "fine," but I'll take 2011 Whitner and Goldson over them, no question.

2011 team would have shellacked current 2019 team 31-10.

Can we wait until this season is over? We have only played three (3) games so far.

Btw, didn't we already see this match up....?

And Kyle has a much better offense then he had now..(though only OC)

Shanahan wasn't the OC then. He was in Washington I believe.

Harbaugh's 49ers did play the Redskins twice when Kyle was there. The Redskins scored a combined 17 points in two games, both losses.

Yes, Shanahan wasn't there yet. But, good lord...why does this game not have a greater place in Niners history? I know we lost the big one (/cry) but man, what an absolute beast of a game.

I agree. The talent divide between the two teams is immense right now. Easy litmus test:

Would Shanny and staff win a championship with the 2011 team? Would JH win a championship with 2019 team?

I think it answers itself.

Would Shanny keep that team or would he change it for his personnel? I'm guessing the latter.
I think it's a bit too early for this comparison.
This Browns game will be the 2011 Detroit Lions backslap game that puts the team back in the spotlight
2011 49ers defense would dominate this offense. As much as I like Kyle, come on. We turned the ball over 5 times against the lowly Steelers who aren't even that great. How can anyone say with confidence that this offense is clicking right now? Because we beat up a bad Bengals team?

Yeah, Harbaugh's offense sucked, but he'd probably get enough Field Goals to beat us, lol.

edit: I'll start giving Kyle more credit if he can beat some contenders on the schedule. Like the Packers, Rams, or Seahawks. Maybe my opinion will change if that happens

So many doubters/cucks will hopefully STFU after tonight

oh so we turned the ball over 5 times means we do that constantly every week? S**t happens and it'll get cleaned up, the offense isnt going to click 100% until the season goes on, staley comes back and jimmy continues to get more comfortable. You act as the offense is dolphins bad
