nope, we have to actually beat somebody first
Someone brought up the rule changes and that's a huge variable on who would win too. You go to 2011/12/13 defense was still winning championships. Nowadays last year's conference finals were the top 4 o's. Not sure if I want to bet on JH in today's game even with a great d. A lot of players are neutered.

the Rams are contenders right? they gave up 55 points to the "scrub ass" bucs at home

whereas we gave up 17. on the road. 10am game.

2019 has better qb, te, dl and special teams

2011 had better ol, lb and dbs

Rb and fb is a wash

Harbaugh is better than shanahan and fangio is much better than saleh

I think it's close but the 2011 defense prevails

with witherspoon in the lineup, 2019 easily has better DB's with him and sherman

I get that Kittle has been very good and will *probably* end up as the best Niner TE ever barring injury or free agency departure, but why does this forum continually underrate prime VD? Remember what he did to the Giants in that NFCCG? The Saints the week before? It's unfair to compare given Kittle's small sample, but VD was an amazing athlete and put up a ton of really good seasons from 2009-2013. Kittle just has the one to go off so far. OH AND LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT DELANIE FRICKIN' WALKER, the "second" tight end for those years.

How is RB and FB a wash? I get that our current RB stable is really good, especially for a bunch of undrafted dudes, but good lord...Frank Gore is AMAZING, and Kendall Hunter was not a slouch. We all had very high hopes for him until the 2012 injury. I have also seen way more consistency from Juice than I did from Bruce Miller, though Miller admittedly had his moments.

As to the responder's point about Witherspoon somehow making the difference, that's just insane. Also, don't forget that Brown and Cox were not slouches. Furthermore, our safeties now are "fine," but I'll take 2011 Whitner and Goldson over them, no question.

Because all Vernon had was his speed. once he loses that he'll be nothing. was a terrible pass-catcher, would always jump unnecessarily to catch passes thrown to him with his body. and he got punished for it that time vs. Chancellor. Blocking he wasn't great at either.

Agreed about RB and FB. pretty solid then. too bad we had no screen game.

Disagree completely about the safeties. they were hard-hitting safeties and weren't all that great in coverage. I like who we have now

Those are all fair points on TE, but VD is easily the best Niner TE of all time for at least a couple more years. Don't forget how good of a blocker he was too. Moreover, I repeat: DELANIE WALKER. Kwon and Warner are good, but even Willis/Bowman and the best DBs among those two teams couldn't cover two TEs at the same time like that.

Agreed on the screen game back then. I remember begging them to get Kendall Hunter into space more often. We couldn't defend it very well for whatever reason either; I remember vividly thinking that was our one weakness.

What have our safeties now actually done? Again, this is sort of inherent in trying to compare a team with a three-game sample vs. one with 18, but Goldson and Whitner had special years in 2011. Moore has been...fine? A couple PBUs, one bad angle on JuJu, but no heinous mistakes that I can recall. Tartt is great in the box because he's a great tackler, but I don't think he's better than Whitner and Goldson were. Those two had so many highlights on running plays or screen/flat passes. At best, that's a push.

Kittle blew VD's record out of the water with receiving TD's, so far he's on pace to blow him out of the water in all stats overall as well. He's just all-around better. But of course, VD did a lot of us. no debating that. he was one of the best TE's we've ever had. I'll give Kittle another year before crowning him over VD VD just never seemed to be the same after that seattle game where he got knocked TF out. and yeah, Walker was pretty much a WR for us. was pretty dope.

after re-watching those '11 playoff games and '12 packer playoff game, oh man, I don't know that Whitner and Goldson could survive now in today's NFL. with the helmet to helmet and big hits, they'd get fined up the ass or suspended for sure. But again, they were always a liability when it came to covering TE's. even Willis too. too bad Colbert didn't work out for us. honestly that's the 1 position group I need to watch more of is the safety play for the '19 niners

Kittle has more yards than VD in a season, but not TDs. Also, I hear the narrative a lot that VD wasn't good anymore after the hit by Kam Chancellor in 2012, but he did have 850 yards and 13 TDs the season after that. His production in 2012 was about the same before and after that hit and he had over 100 yards twice in the playoffs.

yeah that narrative is kinda dumb despite me jumping on that bandwagon for it myself

yea exactly, no way Donte "hit"ner or Goldson survive due to the rule changes and hitting rules

And the "s**tty" team that we still beat despite 5 turnovers has like 3 of their loses by a combined 9 points. Also we've currently given the other 2 teams their worst loses thus. OP was and is not based in reality. Considering the source I am not shocked. Not a lot of real football on that end.

plus the Bengals are what, 0-5 now? they're awful. and we destroyed them. which is exactly what you expect if you have a good team.

They look bad and even still they lost to Seattle by 1, Zona by 3, buffalo by 4 and the Steelers and Niners have beat them by 24.

well you have people here who pay more attention to the 24/7 parking lot thread than actually watching 49er games, so don't know what you expect
Let's leave the 24/7 PL narrative in the Parking Lot. It serves no purpose to bring it in here.

Two road wins in the NFL by 14+ isn't "barely beating scrubs" the only team they barely beat was one that they turned it over 5 times and still won. s**tty teams don't win games that they have 5 TOs in. Still put up more than 430 yards. Same team in fact that held Baltimore who was the top offense in football to Under 300 yards and forced overtime.

24/7 PL.....you just know they are all rooting so hard for a loss tonight so they can post in this very thread It'll be the full on 24/7 PL circle jerk of the same dudes saying the same stupid s**t. What's even funnier is the dudes that are championing Harbs the most were the biggest Harbs critics when he was actually here. I wonder why that is....

I loved Harbaugh when he was here. Please don't generalize the parking lot posters.

Be sure to tell Chaz and Sus the same thing....they find it necessary to bring up ninertalk in derogatory way

Just let it go, everyone.

The Report Button is there for a reason. Don't say you ignore it because you don't want to be a b***h and then come back in the thread stirring things up. That is not an acceptable excuse. Rules are there for a reason.

Now, back to football. Game tonight.
