They better pass because you could NOT run on that squad and how effective would Deebo be vs Willis and Bowman and with Goodson and Whitner they weren't dodging any tackles in that secondary. Straight up head hunters!

We couldn't stop Colston, Victor Cruz, Manningham, Julio, Boldin, Jacoby Jones, Kearse, Tate, Baldwin....

I'll take Kyle with these weapons being able to pass on that mediocre coverage secondary.

That's one player in an era where passing rules (specifically rules protecting the QB) are a lot more liberal. I just can't see that secondary holding Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, McCaffrey, and Jennings enough to win. Will be a great game though.
Which team would you guys take between 1989, 2011, 2019?

Depends on the rules. Some players on the 1989 D might get ejected or banned lol.

Hmm, arguably the greatest team of all time or two very good teams for their years that couldn't win the Super Bowl.

I would take the 1989 team. Great players at every position on both sides of the ball. Just a stacked team. As fun as it was to watch the 2011 and 2019 teams, the 89 team was one of the best ever, especially during that post season.

Feel like other than Joe Staley the turnover has reached a point to where it's finally time to ponder about this, as I have the past couple days..

Was re-watching our 2011 playoff win over the saints, and the 2012 game vs. the Packers. after watching both I've come to the conclusion, I really don't miss what we had anymore.. especially compared to what we have now offensively, and even defensively. we had studs don't get me wrong, but man, going back and watching Harbaugh's offense in 2011 and heck even 2012 with Kap, it just felt so 'limited' or inefficient. we had "ball-hawk" or "big hitters" in the secondary, but they were never known as great cover safetys in my opinion. the only player I miss is our ILB duo with Willis and Bo in his prime defensive-wise. I won't say I missed Aldon, he just had too many issues, and Justin Smith I mean, he's a beast. but damn we are so stacked at D-line now. offensively I miss Gore and just how so good he was at pass-blocking. Miss having the huge value.

so it got me thinking, what do you think it'd be like if Shanny's current 49ers went up against Harbaugh's 2011 niners? I think we'd eat them alive defensively, (I just don't think Alex was good at all in 2011. it's like night and day watching him back then compared to his last season on the Chiefs) but our offense vs. that defense back then? oh man, that'd be interesting and fun to watch. (Just put Joe Staley as the LT for both scenarios, lol)

That team was 13-3 and you could not run the ball on them. To beat that team you would have to have Marshawn Lynch, a mobile Russell Wilson and the LOB. That team had Willis Bowman and Alton Smith at LB. Then the OL was bananas. They dominated you both sides of the LOS consistently. Not on one side but both sides they won the trenches consistently. Real tough guys that outfit was. They took down HOF QBs in their primes. Brady, Brees and Rodgers. Nobody had it better than us from 2011-2013 but SEA just seemed to have our number

you could pass on them though. not a lot of speed in the secondary.

For my money, the 1989 49ers are the greatest team in NFL history.

I think its absurd when the 49ers are *penalized* for being a dynasty and the individual teams don't get their due credit.

NFL network did a top 10 in the last 3-4 years and they finally ranked the 1989 49ers at #1. The 85 bears and 72 dolphins were behind, and rightfully so.

I may be biased but I think the 94 team would beat any of those other SB squads. That D was juggernaut, and the offense was unstoppable. The only blemish that keeps the team from being tops on most lists is that ugly Philly loss early in the season. Other than that we pretty much cruised our way to a SB win that year…

In the 2011 ruleset, Whitner and Goldson would've put all those guys coming over the middle on the IR.

They put 7 straight starting RBs out of the game and knocked numerous players unconscious.

Hit Aaron Hernandez so hard he consented to giving Aldon Smith an inception on the very next play.

Look at the difference between the Alvin Kamara fumble and the Pierre Thomas fumble.
My man crush over Harbs is officially officially over.

After rooting for the dude for the past decade plus, i've lost faith in him. His playcalling vs. TCU today was atrocious, costing UMich multiple scores in the red zone.

Remember, we were fooled with the media stories about how he sat and learned from Walsh in private? He would supposedly be our offensive guru?

And yet all we've ever seen offensively is "smash mouth", "hit em in da mouth" foosball.

loved the dude. loved his trash talk (jive turkey gobble gobble), he just has too much neanderthal DNA in him. LOL

Kap, Gore, Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker, Crabtree, Randy Moss (too open up the middle for Vernon and Walker).....that's tough to stop... the reason we were able to fight back at the NFC Championship game against the Falcons...and at the Super Bowl against a Great Ravens Defense.

Kyle wouldn't be able to run the ball against that 2012 Defense with Jimmy at QB imo... so it would be the 2019 version of Jimmy having to make plays against that defense with Justin Smith and Aldon coming after him... with Pat Willis and Bowman roaming the middle to deflect passes or ints.

I can see that 2019 DLine causing problems to Kap and that oline.. maybe even causing some fumbles. But that would have to be if we fall behind and Bosa, Buckner, and company could pin their ears back and attack....with Fred and Greenlaw waiting to destroy Kap if he ran forward. Especially with 2012 rules lol.

But I don't think Harbs would let it get to that. He would stick with the run and Gore would get those little yards needed to help us sustain yards... and key Kap rollouts. Bosa is quick, but Kap can get away from him on a rollout. Just stoping Vernon AND Walker in the middle of the field is TOUGH. And people forget, before Kittle... Vernon was a Great Run blocker... he just wasn't as exuberant.

I think Harbs would out coach Kyle.... or Kyle would out coach himself and get cute at the wrong time in a game where every possession counts... field position would count.

That 2012 Offense was special imo... mainly because of having TWO of the fastest TEs in the league, and QB who could hit them in stride in the intermediate part of the field.

Better late than never I suppose , I lost faith in him after his late game blunder in Seattle, and then 2014 as his team imploded.

good coach, but he's a choking pig
