Expound on 49ers Game Plan against Rams

You are Kyle. What is the game plan on offense and defense against the Rams?

On offense: We know they have to do something to stop the run. If we run the ball we dictate the tone and tempo of the game. Bubble screens and jet sweeps will negate Donald controlling the middle, and are basically high percentage run plays. With outside zone and our lineman pulling, this also negates Donald somewhat as he wants to pressure off the snap and get into the backfield. If they do this, it of course opens up play action passing, which the Rams are very susceptible to. Can even have play action to quick release short passes. This also gets Jimmy into the flow of the game. I like Deebo in space against their linebackers, as well as Kittle. Chunk plays on early downs will be there. Just have to avoid crippling penalties that set up third and long. Toilolo (sp?) blocking at TE will be crucial this game to help our tackles.

On defense: I think they will go to a lot of no-huddle to get into a passing rhythm. This is the game where we play more man in the secondary. I have enough confidence now in Tartt and Ward that we can restrict big passing plays. Man is the blueprint for beating teams like KC. We mix our zone and man to create doubt and confusion. More linebacker blitzes up the middle because Goff cannot run and Gurly is out. Goff wants to sit in the pocket. They are going to want to dink and dunk down the field out of no huddle, so we have to create pressure to get them out of that rhythm. We will get turnovers this game. They are only going to run just enough to keep us honest, but their running game will not threaten to manufacture points. They may become one-dimensional. This is where we truly have the edge.
Think Coleman has a big day in the pass game to help this team
Keep TTT around 2.25. That puts a heavy emphasis on running the ball for PA and players such as Pettis, Deebo, Kittle and the Arby's getting open immediately and beating man. Kittle stays inline a ton more this game because of his hamstring. Toilolo becomes huge for us in the run blocking game and his snaps more than double. Grind it out in the run game. Set the tone. The Rams are going to sell out run blitzing and the average gains will drop but be patient. Continue with a lot of pre snap motion. I don't think we can be as exotic as last week with Brunskill in and Juice out so expect more counter focus to the left side of the OL this time. Frustrate Donald with doubles and 2.25 TTT. Tomlinson needs to win this battle. He's been whipped the last couple times IIRC.

Defense? business as usual. Goff's TTT is one of the highest at 2.79 which should have our DL licking its chops. I'd play a little tighter man this time as Sherman was giving up constant 20 yarders last game. Continue to mix up the coverages with the back 7 including different pre and post snap looks.

Offense: continue running the ball, of course, but don't be surprised if they can't with no Staley/McG. If they can't run, then use the RBs in the short passing game. No idea who those Rams LBs are so perhaps they can be exploited. Talib is out, but I'm not sure that's a good thing with how he's struggled this season.

Defense: The 49ers front should exert its dominance on the Rams OL. I don't see the Rams running on them, especially with a gimpy Gurley. Their TE Everett has been active in the passing game. I like Tartt vs any TE, but I don't know if they get away from their predominantly zone gameplans that we've seen in the first 4 games. Rattle Goff early and it'll be a cakewalk imo. Might be overconfidence but I don't see that Rams interior OL being anything more than a bunch of turnstiles.
Run football. Play action. Mid direction. Stop the run. Rush and cover. Same plan man

Score more than the other team when the clock hits 00:00:00
How'd they do?

Keep TTT around 2.25. CHECK!

That puts a heavy emphasis on running the ball for PA and players such as Pettis, Deebo, Kittle and the Arby's getting open immediately and beating man. CHECK...Coleman nearly had 2 receiving TD's and receivers did just enough esp. Kittle.

Kittle stays inline a ton more this game because of his hamstring. Toilolo becomes huge for us in the run blocking game and his snaps more than double. CHECK!

Grind it out in the run game. Set the tone. The Rams are going to sell out run blitzing and the average gains will drop but be patient. CHECK...toughest 99 yards ever.

Continue with a lot of pre snap motion. I don't think we can be as exotic as last week with Brunskill in and Juice out so expect more counter focus to the left side of the OL this time. CHECK!

Frustrate Donald with doubles and 2.25 TTT. Tomlinson needs to win this battle. He's been whipped the last couple times IIRC. NO CHECK. Donald still got 2 sacks each against Skule and Brunskill and was very disruptive in the backfield.

Defense? business as usual. Goff's TTT is one of the highest at 2.79 which should have our DL licking its chops. CHECK!
