Could SF have done a free kick in SB 47?

I am watching the Panthers game and they just did a free kick to try for a FG at the end of the 1st half.

I was very confused, but the way Mooch explained it was if there is a punt on the last play of a half you can call for a fair catch and then do a free kick FG attempt from there

On the last play of the SB the Ravens punted from their end zone (after the punter ran around killing the clock for a few seconds) and then punted. Ted Ginn caught it tried to run it back but got tackled and the game was over.

Could the Niners have done the same thing and maybe kicked a 70 yarder to tie? The FG is with no rush so you basically do a kickoff/FG attempt so 70 is possible.

None of this matters obviously, just bored waiting for the NIners game and figured I would pose the question.

(The details of the game are from memory so if I am wrong on something I apologize lol)

Dammit, forgot that part. I guess it was the free kick after I was thinking about.

Disregard lol
