It really is all of the above working in concert. A lot of the same good players, but also new great players to go along with better coaching, all complementing each other. But we don't look as good without the upgraded pass rush.

1- the beastly front 7, probably the best one in football today.
Buckner, Warner, Bosa and Ford are 4 of the top 30 defensive players in the league
2- very improved performances by previously bad players like armstead and ward
3- coaches

Fangio's a very good defensive coordinator but he has a whole bunch of years with poorly ranked statistical teams because he didn't have good players just like sleigh didn't have players he needed the past couple years.
The narrative that anyone can coach this D with all the talent is just that, a narrative. Look at all the talent in Jacksonville and yet that D is not among the tops in the league.

I see that the players are being put in position to excel. Right players for the defense and playing well as a unit.

The talent is so much better this year that I have to go with that, but Saleh also gets a ton of credit for tweaking the scheme, bringing in those new coaches, and getting the most from all that talent. He's fun to watch. So is his defense.

It's the scheme saleh brought in. His vision of what it could and should be. The talent brought in, the coaching hires etc have all helped realise what we see now, but without the original vision, and continued guidance towards it of what is possible we would have nothing spectacular.

It's the FO and coaching staff that deserve the credit. No single player acquisition is responsible for the turnaround. The FO and the coaches successfully identified where the deficiencies on this roster were and (just as importantly) where they weren't. And they found ways to improve those deficiencies.

IMO many factors, but mostly talent and Garoppolo back. Thus far, Garoppolo is able to execute the gameplan well enough, which puts a deep front 4 in a position to attack. Still, credit to Saleh and the coaches for keeping at it.
