The Niners WR position and why I think trading for another WR is a mistake

I am usually critical, but I actually LIKE our Niner WR's. I think someone needs to earn the right of number 1 and number 2, but I would not mortgage the future to bring in another WR.

1. Deebo Samuel- Obviously a favorite of the coach he gets multiple targets a game and they scheme him open. He is a keeper
2. Dante Pettis- supposed injury in beginning of season, but this kid has the tools and needs to earn a spot, he could earn the top spot. Give this kid all the reps he can. Let him earn the chance to be special.
3. Trent Taylor- injured, but he is the slot man who can score.

In my humble opinion these are the top 3 WR's. Now we have the wild cards

4. Goodwin- high paid, can stretch the field. I think the team needs to run him deep several times a game if anything to tire out the secondary of the other team. I think he is gone next year but this year use him while we have him.

5. Jordan Mathews- the former 2nd round pick is actually as good as our starters. Give him a chance to be a starter. Just get it done.

6. Richie James Jr- the 7th round pick that everyone WANTS to cut but all he does is return punts, kick, and get open. I think he is a keeper.

7. Kendrick Bourne- he comes up with big catches I think he and Jordan Mathews are interchangeable.

8. Jalen Hurd- Injured non factor until next season. That being said I think he could be TE number /FB/WR

So WHY trade a high draft pick for another WR? Just my opinion but lets let the above prove they can play. I have confidence in all of them and hope that Deebo , Pettis and Taylor can step up to be the starters.

deebo is hurt,. taylor is hurt , mathews did not play and that tells me what i need to know about what they think of him. goodwin is hurt and is not very good this year. hurd is hurt. no one said a high pick. there are at least three guys that could be had for a 5th in my opinion. no, i think the need for a better wide out is greater than the want to keep one of our guys
None of them scream #1 receiver imo.

My bad, I could care less about a 5th round pick. I thought I read AJ Green was a target and he would require too much draft capitol in my opinion.

My point is Deebo and Taylor will return. The other WR's can get reps . that being said if low draft capitol then no worries.

no aj, i,,,, i am sick of hurt guys. there are a few guys who would be an upgrade and not having to give up a high pick. i understand the hoping worked out with ward and the o line but i am not willing to hope taylor will be the answer or hurd.. i love deebo but again. i just think we need to get a better guy than what we have now. aj is the sexy guy. but he is hurt. screw that. i did want sanders but some said he is to pricey
Agreed, I would also not sell out our future by trading high draft picks for a WR. If there was deal similar to those in which we acquired JG and DF, which I don't consider selling our future out, then I might be open to one. That said, I trust our regime to do what's best for the team whether they trade for a WR or not.

You are 100% correct, I listen to NFL network and they said no WR earns the number 1 spot by injury or just by being a starter. A true #1 AKA Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones is earned and offesnive coordinators have to game plan for them and fear them. A true number 1 needs to step up and earn it. IMO that person is Pettis, and I think Kyle feels that way and why he is so frustrated with him and so hard on him. He wants him to earn it, and he has not ... yet.......

We as Niner fans had it so good with Rice as the number one and JT John Taylor a solid number 2 that all he did was produce. I would argue that Taylor could have been a legit number 1 on other teams.
Lynch needs to attack this weakness before it ends up costing us an important game later on. Take a page out of Bill Belichick's book and address a small issue before it becomes a major one.

We have a week to go before the deadline and I would hate to put our season in the hands of a bunch of young guys possibly returning from injuries.
Its unfortunate that we are down Deebo / Hurd / Taylor but because we have Deebo and Taylor slated to come back i am reluctant to give anything up for an "interim" WR.

AJ Green sounds nice on paper but we have a plethora of guys we drafted that just need to break out and be healthy.

None of them are even solid 2s.

Pettis: Can't be relied upon. Some games he's motivated, some games it seems he'd rather be doing something else

Deebo: Solid. Fights for yards. Hands have been inconsistent at times. Not always on the same page as Jimmy with his route running.

Goodwin: Good for clearing out the under routes. Also good for a potential big play that ends being a dropped pass. Doesn't do much else.

Trent Taylor: One good season, one underwhelming season. Currently injured. It's be stupid to put your hopes and playoff dreams on him. Are we going to get the reliable 3rd down converting Trent? Who knows? Too many questions to put all your eggs in this basket.

Richie James: Don't know why he doesn't get more playing time. Maybe it's his run blocking? Either way we don't see him much so it's hard to evaluate.

KB: Best receiver last year. But seems to have concentration issues at times that leads to stupid dropped balls or worse.

Matthews: Lol. No point in getting into this one. Maybe his career gets resurrected but again, if you believe you're a contender, you can't hope this is going to be our savior.

Hurd: Looked good in preseason but who knows what he'll look like in an actual NFL game, especially against the teams we have coming up.

Look. Windows close real quick. Look at the Rams. Eventually were going to have win some games with a real passing attack and none of these receivers can get it done on a consistent basis. I'm not saying go crazy and trade 2 firsts like the Rams but you gotta make a move at some point. Yesterday hasn't been the only game where our receivers can't do anything.
We need to get better inlay this position if we want to make real noise in January. Emmanuel Sanders makes us better. Even Mohamed Sanu would help us

Exactly! You never know when your window will close. We have a great shot this year so we need to do everything we can to capitalize on this season

Sanu makes the most sense to me.
If we can pwn the Bungles into giving us AJ for our 2020 4th round pick then I would be down with that in a heart beat.
