The Niners WR position and why I think trading for another WR is a mistake

I wasnt thrilled with the idea of giving up draft picks in a draft where we are already without our 2nd rounder, but Sanders immediately helps this WR corps. Cant be upset at that.

Chances are it also comes with a new contract too. By Goodwin.

Good win by the FO if that takes place...

There's no way Hurd is coming back off of IR just not to dress for game days. They'll cut Matthews and IF they bring someone off IR more than likely bring Taylor back if he's ready. So it's

Sanders
Pettis
Goodwin
Bourne
Samuel
James

IR
Hurd
Taylor

And given how much we pass to backs I just can't see them risking Hurd a this stage, or for that matter even Taylor if he's not 100% ready to go without any setbacks. Still too many and someone will be cut.

I think Taylor will come back, but Hurd won't. They were really high on Taylor, and his injury was one he could come back from.

Guys like Bourne, Pettis, and Taylor will be scrapping to see who will make the 46 man

Agreed. If Samuel really is asked to only run slants from the slot and he doesn't need to do anything outside because of Sanders, that really changes the offense and everyone is playing to their strengths.
You're nuts if you think Shanny will only ask Sanders to run slants.

Your correct. Totally read that wrong Samuel - Sanders mixup

Sorry NinerGM
I also dont mind the picks dealt, no 1st so Im fine. A move for a WR had to be made imo.
Just read what Coach had to say about Sanders...that's all we need to know. End of story.

I am usually critical, but I actually LIKE our Niner WR's. I think someone needs to earn the right of number 1 and number 2, but I would not mortgage the future to bring in another WR.

1. Deebo Samuel- Obviously a favorite of the coach he gets multiple targets a game and they scheme him open. He is a keeper
2. Dante Pettis- supposed injury in beginning of season, but this kid has the tools and needs to earn a spot, he could earn the top spot. Give this kid all the reps he can. Let him earn the chance to be special.
3. Trent Taylor- injured, but he is the slot man who can score.

In my humble opinion these are the top 3 WR's. Now we have the wild cards

4. Goodwin- high paid, can stretch the field. I think the team needs to run him deep several times a game if anything to tire out the secondary of the other team. I think he is gone next year but this year use him while we have him.

5. Jordan Mathews- the former 2nd round pick is actually as good as our starters. Give him a chance to be a starter. Just get it done.

6. Richie James Jr- the 7th round pick that everyone WANTS to cut but all he does is return punts, kick, and get open. I think he is a keeper.

7. Kendrick Bourne- he comes up with big catches I think he and Jordan Mathews are interchangeable.

8. Jalen Hurd- Injured non factor until next season. That being said I think he could be TE number /FB/WR

So WHY trade a high draft pick for another WR? Just my opinion but lets let the above prove they can play. I have confidence in all of them and hope that Deebo , Pettis and Taylor can step up to be the starters.

Move for WR = I thought we did Drafting (#2 & #3 using that much draft capital and still requires a "had to be made"??).

If we get knocked out of the first round of playoffs then starting thinking about next year, then it will dawn on us how much the future we just traded away.

We really won't know how good a move this is until year end. The optimist in me says one thing, the pessimist says something very completely different.

No it's all assumption

Surely you can't be serious..

Is Hurd or a Taylor even at the facility doing light drills? They were slow to IR Hurd making me wonder how bad his back was. Carr had I thought something similar in Oak a few years back and he came back to action quick.

That being said Matthews still has a good chance of staying or coming back. WRs now a days seem to be the most delicate players and the percentages tell me that another will go down in the next few weeks.
