This. People around here take the SB or bust mentality a bit too far in this regard.

Yeah, and I don't think playing AA at edge is the smartest thing.

They've won three less since 1981 than the 49ers have.

It's pretty much done. We have to rebuild again from the draft because we don't have enough $$$. Which means it will take about 2 more seasons to get back to the Super Bowl if we hit on couple of top draft picks and undrafted rookies.

We need a completely new OL if we want to even compete. We also have to rebuild our CB/safety position. Probably add couple of pass rushers because our DL took a big hit this offseason (QBs have so much time and we are so freaking slow). All I would do against us is just run the QB, we can't beat it.

It's going to get much worse before it gets better I think. Too many holes and can't play good free agents because we don't have enough cap space.

What? Lol, you want to flush it all away? Regarding pass rushing, just as an example, do you recall that we have one of the best young pass rushers in the league? He is injured right now but will be back. Just check Lynch and the front office and their draft and FA work and stop panicking. This is one of the deepest teams in the league and is going to compete next year and the year after.

This. We arguably have the best team in the nfl when relatively healthy AND the best depth by far of any team
this thread is so stupid

we overachieved last year and now our window is closed? lol

We didn't overachieve last year - we played to our potential.

While injured up the ass

If Ford was fully healthy or D.J. Jones or Richburg we win the SB.

Not saying to flush it all away but IMO the talent isn't there right now regardless of injuries. We need someone on the other side of Bosa and more depth. D-Buck left a huge hole and we cannot stop running QB's at all. The rookie we drafted to replace him hasn't had any impact unlike D-Buck during his rookie year. AA has been during these couple of games.

CB's are pretty trash. Safeties are terrible. OL is a complete disaster (our RT is a bust).

That is why I am saying we might need up to two season to get back to the Super Bowl. For example, next offseason take care of OL or CB. Then the following offseason take care of FS/SS and Pass Rush.

We will compete (if we are healthy) but until those problems are fixed I don't see us winning a Super Bowl.

Well, that wasn't what you said before. In this day and age every team has to be active and successful in the draft, which we are; and reasonably injury-free, which we are not. I don't agree that Kinlaw has made no impact, but it is ridiculous to complain that he hasn't had the impact of Buckner. Very few have.

With Sherman, Bosa, Ford, Blair, Taylor and Thomas all out, our D line and therefore pass rush is decimated and hence the defensive backfield is hung out to dry. That is the way of things. I think, with Sherman and a pass rush that the db's are adequate. The O line needs work, unquestionably.

Simple summary: as long as our key players keep getting injured, we are likely to struggle. As would any other team in the league. The front office has drafted excellently and brought in various other players who are contributing. Take out the two top pass rushers from any team as well as the starting qb, then remove the second string qb for poor play, from any team, and see where you are. There is not a single team in the league that can win with its 3rd string qb and no pass rush. We are just going to have to weather the storm.

This is the reality of the NFL - you're constantly plugging roster holes on a capsizing boat. When the draft rolled around, all people on this forum could talk about was how incredibly loaded this team was and that any rookie (outside of WR/DT/IOL) would struggle to start. While there might have been a little truth, it was very to see impending roster holes - particularly in the secondary given Sherman's age and Ford's unreliable health. RB is also a concern since Mostert is the only above average RB on the roster and this scheme needs good RBs (although what Shanahan values is underappreciated in the league, so you can get good value and not draft a RB high).

This is sort of what happens when you take gambles like signing Alexander, trading for Ford/Sanders, and have a mixed drafting record with fewer draft picks - great picks like Kittle/Warner/Greenlaw and horrible ones like Foster/Thomas/(and now McGlinchey).

The 49ers are going to need Kinlaw/Aiyuk/McKivitz to be great (which is possible) and for next year's draft class to also ball out to get back into the thick of things.

Why? We're injured plain and simple. Man people overreact in here

Probably won't make it back to the SB this year with all the injuries, and lot of key players are about to be FAs in the offseason. Should've won it last year
