The problem may be that by the time a top 10 QB is found, much of the young talent on this team will no longer be young but playing on the beginning of the backside of their career.

I am hoping JG can fulfill the hope of being a top 10, however, he is looking more like a mid-to-low teen QB instead. That isn't good enough to take down the Lombardi unless the rest of the team is outstanding.

Clock is ticking on Jimmy to perform like a franchise Qb - otherwise, I don't think he makes it through his contract.
Championship window is gone man

Loss of elite edge rusher will do that.
Closed for this year barring squeaking into the playoffs somehow and getting hot.

Gotta fix the O line, revamp the secondary this off-season.
Its a glory hole now
It's closed, probably for the next 2-3 years unless we get a capable QB from somewhere unexpected.

Tank for Trevor
This team got to the SB before anyone expected them to. They got off to a good start last year with a favorable schedule and a defense led by Bosa and rode it to the SB. Most people had them going 8-8 or 9-7 before the season started. They were similar to the '81 team that got to the SB beforwe they were really a great team. Walsh saw the weak spots and proceeded to fill them so they got back to the SB in '84. This team could be similar. There are 2 differences though. One is the salary cap. There wasn't one in '81. Two is the QB. Joe is an all time great and one of the2 or 3 best ever. Jimmy isn't even close to being in that category. Good but not great doesn't make a dynasty.

Um you may be forgetting one key thing there bud: Walsh Drafted our core group for the secondary in that 81 draft: Lott, Wright, & Williamson. That was a fantastic draft as all 3 became starters in their rookie year. And all were impact players too. 6/7 picks were defensive!!

This management couldn't draft a core like that if their damn lives were on the line. I truly believe that 1981 draft set the table for this teams success and runs.

The 84 draft was okay but the 86 draft was the icing on the cake. Rathman, Haley, McKyer, Wallace, f*gan, Griffin, Taylor and Roberts.

I didn't forget that. I was in the seats in those days. Walsh himself said they weren't a great team yet in '81. Remember they were only 6-10 the previous year. That secondary did for the defense what Bosa did for the defense last year. They played above expectations and lifted the team emotionally and on the field with their performance. They went on to upgrade the O line and the receivers.

The draft back then was 12 rounds and there were 4 less teams that could grab a player before you. You could build a team much quicker thru the draft. Of course they didn't have free agency either. That worked both ways. You couldn't pick up players in the off season but then you didn't lose them either. Barring injury, when you drafted someone he was yours as long as you wanted him.
