Our window to win was now.. I think it dramatically decreases next season. Still possible but it's gonna be really difficult to catch the same breaks we did this season. The question is... Is Jimmy G good enough to carry us?

Agreed, Whole West division is going to be better and gunning for SF. SF probably takes a step back after FA losses, no draft picks and no cap room.

breaks?
Goodwin doing his weird thing and being semi retired.Hurd getting injured. Pettis doing ABSOLUTELY NUTTIN'. Mckinnon getting easy money getting injured all the time. Taylor getting injured. Nose tackles going to IR left and right. Spoon playing great one week, then like ass the next.
Underachievers playing like pro bowlers in Warner, Arik, Moseley, etc.
Kittle and the RB core lighting the whole league up.
if ShannyLynch can pull that off with all of that , then we have something with Shannylynch.,
It isn't over.

Russell Wilson and Kyle Murray are going to be trouble for years to come. This was our year and we mortgaged part of the future to win now.. gonna be tough to get back.

I'm not saying it's over but it's gonna be difficult to get back. The rest of the division isn't getting worse next season.

We'll be very lucky if we make it back in the next 3-5 years(btw lockout looming in 2021). Everyone says "they aren't going anywhere or they'll be back" after a team loses the super bowl. But unless you're the Patriots, that's never the reality especially in the NFC
Honestly, I know a lot may disagree but I would've rather lost in the playoffs or miss it entirely than lose in a super bowl. This is something I will probably never get over

The 49ers have *major* holes in the secondary (depth), DL now that Armstead is leaving (Ford hasn't been healthy all season) and an internal OL with average pass-blocking ability (they need a starting center and that's not Ben Garland).
lolwut?

Closed!!!
As long as Goodell is running the show. He has beef with the Niners for some reason and he wont allow us to come out on top as long as he's the boss.

The window is open, but is bloody hard to get back to the dance after a Super Bowl loss. Even if we can get back next year, I no longer trust Shanahan to deliver the win. I have monitored him long enough already and his meltdown in high pressure situations is a real thing. I will keep on monitoring him next season and see whether he can psychologically control or at least minimize his panic in critical situations in big games.

History almost repeats itself. Not only have teams who made the Superbowl rarely make it back, but they've gone on to have terrible seasons afterwards.
Now let's factor in several other points:
-Our division gets better, and the NFC gets better
-Likelihood of getting the #1 seed again diminishes
-Paying our guys and letting them walk. Letting AA walk would be mistake #1
-Injuries. They're unpredictable, but if any of our top guys get hurt for the year, we're done
-Mediocre QB play. We're stuck with Jimmy G
Does not bode well for us.

No, I think you're right and I would even be a bit more extreme...

The 49ers have *major* holes in the secondary (depth), DL now that Armstead is leaving (Ford hasn't been healthy all season) and an internal OL with BELOW average pass-blocking ability (they need a starting center and that's not Ben Garland). One first round pick and a few 5th/6th rounders along with no cap space.
Every team in the league will follow exactly what the Chiefs and their crappy ranked D did to the 49ers run game. We're going to see it weekly. Teams will force the OL to pass-protect and Jimmy to throw. The passrush will be a shell of itself without Ford being reliably healthy and no Armstead.
The offense is going to have to learn how to outright blow people out and win games running AND AND AND passing reliably on talent (WRs/TE/OL) with or without expert scheming and against DL that have studs.
When was it confirmed AA is leaving?
Please don't make assumptions and jump to conclusions.

It's probably closed already. Once you blow a championship, you're usually done for a decade or two.

If Jimmy develops as he gains experience, he can make up for some of the losses at other parts of the roster. As long as there's no turmoil in the front office, I think the 49ers have the right culture to win with this core group of coaches and players. Besides Sherman and Staley, it's a young team and if they take pride in their profession, they will improve as individuals. Whether they win a SB or not depends on too many factors, but the team should be in the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

I find it extremely doubtful they're going to keep Armstead and Buckner and extend Kittle. There's not enough cap space. Not to mention Sanders. I would be okay with letting Sanders go if we hit on Pettis.
Pettis is done. Sanders can leave too.
Need to keep Armstead. He's the top performer on that line. Buckner, Armstead and Kittle are like 90% of the reason why were this good.
