i heard he was being traded

What possible value would he have? 6th round pick?

we need some picks so i would take a 6th for him and cj

Trading Pettis for a 6th is a terrible idea.

I wouldn't trade him...yet. I would say the jury is still out on him. I wouldn't consider his spot on the team as being a lock though if he doesn't improve.

Still too early to think about trading him - give it the rest of the year. If he hasn't improved yet, then I'd think about moving him.

I would base my decision on what (or who) we could get for him.

I'm sure if they could get a 5th for CJ they would have taken it. Matthews will be released by Saturday the latest.

I think they would've easily have moved CJ for a 5th if that were on the table.

As for the other posts I'm reading regariding Pettis, it would be silly to trade him. Any talk of trading him is all based on feelings and not thinking long term. Why on earth would we trade a player in his 2nd year that has already flashed? Could be mental, could be a sophomore slump, could be the good games as a rookie were a fluke, or could be that he's just a good complementary player, but isn't going to be the guy. Outside of the rookie year being a fluke, which you can't say for sure until year 3, under all other circumstances, Pettis should be kept.
The only reason Pettis would be traded for less then he was drafted with is behavioral.

The 49ers have used careful language about him since preseason. They have been clear his role and job on the team is on him.

They didn't say, sky is the limit for this guy, they said something to the effect of what role he has in the offense is up to him. That to me sounds like "real talk" and a straight answer. I took it as, we want him to do something that he is not doing.

No

No

Kickers can be found at the used kickers lot. If you want a new, unused model you go to Australia. It seems like they are breeding them down there.

It is hard to imagine any trade that would recoup the draft capital invested in him, based on what he has done to date.

With Sanders now on the team, Pettis will now have a bit more time to bring his game up to the level anticipated by his draft slot. There is no rush at this point.

agree
So when Gordon gets waived from the Patriots short term IR, it says he will go through waiver claims. Do we still hold the number 2 spot due to last years record? If so, it might make sense to claim him, and let him play out this season on our roster. Gordon and Sanders would make a good WR combo, to go with Kittle.

No it changes come week 5 I believe.

Been doing the Josh Gordon talk for what 5 years now. He's not coming.
Good to know, but getting him through claimers, if he makes it that far might be a chance worth taking.
