I have listed 12 players that have really shocked the team and taken the league by storm this year.
Some of them came from many bad seasons (Armstead, tartt and ward), some were fa question marks (Alexander, Coleman), some were thought to be injury prone or had to show themselves while still young (bosa, ford, moseley, Witherspoon) and some were not relevant or at a high level before (person, tomlinson)
For me the one that surprised me the most is ward. He was the one guy i always complained about, he was missing easy tackles and assignments, and frequently burned in coverage. He had "bust" written all over him, and he had spent more time injured than producing.
It has been night and day for him, as this season I consider him to be our best open field tackler, wrapping up and finishing up plays that I thought were impossible for him.
He has also been shutdown in coverage. I have been really impressed by his great production so far

I feel like it has to be between ward and moseley. Ward being to stay healthy and play at a extremely high level and moseley the boi wonder no one had faith in (I did) being ranked like 2nd right now as a corner when thrown at.

I'm gonna go with Armstead simply because he's playing at such a high level.
Bosa was supposed to be a game wrecker. That he's an extreme game wrecker is a wonderful thing, but not totally unexpected.
Ward has been great, but he missed three games, so he hasn't done it quite as long as AA this season. Same thing for Spoon and Eman.
Tomlinson/Person are proving those of us who wanted to see the same interior return with experience together were right. Bonus points for doing it with inexperienced OTs for half the games so far.
Blair has always flashed in his limited role. He's mostly benefiting from superior starters ahead of him. Tartt played this well the last two years when healthy.
Ford, Alexander and Coleman are doing exactly what they were brought in to do.

I picked Bosa. I knew he was probably going to be good. However, I had no idea he would be the absolute game changer he has become in just a short period of time.

I'm gonna go with one not on the list and that is Skule, what I saw in preseason isn't what I see now and it's not even close. The guys on the list have all flashed something I liked, been really well regarded young players/picks or been snake bit by injuries.

Unless someone expected Bosa to one of if not the best defensive player in the league from the second he stepped on the field, then he is absolutely a surprise.

My biggest surprise:
Kyle Shanahan - offensive scheme change the first 8 weeks. Might even include Woods and Kocurek there on defense too.

I went with Moseley, but I would've liked to have said the entire secondary. We knew they would be much improved given the improvements on the D-line, but I didn't expect them to be this deadly.

You can say AA, he's playing pro bowl level, Moseley, playing great, Skule and Brunskill, Stepped in and has held their own, everyone else I think we knew what they can do just needed to be healthy

Yes but not enough to make the top of this list
