either the nfl told its officials to allow a Cards win, or they didnt.

I'm not so sure. There's a lot of stuff that goes on in the world that you never hear about. A lot of secrets out there that never comes to light. Not saying it's true. youre right, it has nothing to with science. I'm just giving narrative cliches because the fact is: the team that wins is the one the nfl chooses to win that day.
after the game you can pick what ever narrative cliche you want to blame the win or loss on.
