LMAO, why do people hate on Vernon Davis so much? He's not even to close to my favorite 49er but my god how does he being the better blocker, having worse talent around him, better athlete, better stats, and arguably the greatest TE in playoff history not make you the best? I've never understood that.

EDIT: But yeah I've seen enough from Kittle to say he is playing at the highest level we have had at the position ever.

Great post and thoughts Marvin as usual. However, I have to disagree with this one, for now. Let's wait til Kittle makes some big catches in big games i.e. playoffs, and hopefully SB.

I stand by my quote.
Back from your refuge at Seahawks . net? I imagine this next week could be a challenge for you and your boys.

limiting the yards per carry every run would help. Its easier to stop a mobile qb with 3rd and 6-9 than 3rd and 1-5.
Glad to see you back, Marvin...we all have missed your insights.

#1-4...ditto on JG, NIck, Pettis and the sledge hammer loss of KWON. That REALLY hurts.

#5 Arik...i jjust hope and pray the guy i have been patient with for 4 long yrs, who managed to always bust thru the OL and then didn't know what to do....who finally , thanks to Kocurek and NIck, Dee, Buck...learned how to be a DT. And he is playing lites out . I hope we manage to keep him with the rest of our DL, for another 4 yrs. As for Ward, no comment, other than yes, he has played well and isn't on the sidelines.

#6 Run D. Sort of disagree in that IMO we got gashed because in 2nd half our DLs got gassed, not being able to get a blow because KK went up tempo and we couldn't get DLs in and out of the game. And THAT was why we got so badly run on. I could be dead wrong, but that was the one thing that stood out more than any other. Our DLs need a break every 4-5 , maybe 6-8 plays, and KK was smart enough to go no huddle and prevent that. Once that happened our passrush and run D went into le toilette.

7 RBs... ditto. Why pay for a RB when you can go down to Walmart parking lot and pick up 3 guys, two of which can start and avg 5 yds/carry.

8 Uncle sherm...total surprise signing, but why not. The Achilles was a reason not to, but have to admit the guy has been stellar and a team leader. Not afraid to speak his mind to players or coaches...eg, Saleh on the sidelines after the 80 yd pass/runTD.

9. Kittle ...the BEST and that is saying something. The guy's personality is infectious, and his effort and talents, non pareil. I love the guy and he is right there with team favorites. Best part of our receivers.

10. Coaching...and GM..When announced i immediately saw the best QB/HC(OC) duo in the NFL. Last yr would be hard pressed to say it but end of 2017 and then this yr....it's true. He thinks in 4 dimensions, adding time in there. There is no equal nor anyone close. BB is still going strong but based on 20 yrs of winning. And he is crafty. A matchup between the two ? Would be fascinating.

What i love about kyle is he is so far ahead of the rest of the game...who knows what the last 2 yrs has been like for him? But he stuck to his guns and when he has said in times past (to Nate Burtleson of all people while at Browns)...if you do what i said and laid out, you will win." It still applies today. The guy is just awesome. Smart as all get out and dang is he determined.

Loss of Kocurek and run play caller....agreed. I hope kocurek stays on. He hasn't other places, but I hope he remains here. I truly admire the guy and same goes for Joe Woods. They made that D into what it is. Saleh fits in nicely but the two new hires and McDaniel...they were the finishing touches needed.

I think Kyle is learning the D, already knows Run play calling and is doing so because like BB, he will start losing position coaches after this yr. Funny strange how at start of yr, everyone had to have a 5000 yd, 50 TD QB. Now they are wondering, "should we be a running team?"

GM...John Lynch was truly an inspired pick plus kyle liked him. The guy is smart, trouble shot for the York's what was needed and made himself available when asked to GM. Picks have been excellent, (except for you know who in yr 1), and even then , it didn't hurt us. Trades and moves have been fair, and he has never had a bad deal. He gets his money 's worth in trades. Knows all the right people in NFL, also a bunch in college and is our conduit into guys coming out for draft. Unbelievable talent with kyle in rds 3-7. Plus smart, well spoken and charismatic. Guys come here because of him and kyle. Also the duo have built a winnner in less than 3 yrs. Amazing.

Terrific summary of what happened while you were gone Marvin. Welcome back

I disagree with the run d part. Kenyan drake is a very good back and somebody I wanted on the niners. It was one fluke game that the defensive line will make sure to not happen again. This team is built on our defensive line and whether they can control the line of scrimmage. It will get corrected for hawks game.

Game 1: Ronald Jones - 13 for 75 - 5.8 per carry
Game 2: Joe Mixon - 11 for 17 - 1.5 per carry
Game 3: James Conner - 13 for 43 - 3.3 per carry
Game 4: Brown/Henderson - 17 for 89 - 4.6 per carry
Game 5: Nick Chubb - 16 for 87 - 5.4 per carry
Game 6: Adrian Peterson - 20 for 81 - 4.1 per carry
Game 7: Christian McCafferey - 14 for 117 - 8.4 per carry
Game 8: Kenyan Drake - 15 for 115 - 7.3 per carry

Its been an issue most of the year. They are giving up 4.7 per carry and are the 14th ranked D against the run.

Its an issue.

You have to consider that we were up big in some of those games and the teams were abandoning the run. If they did run, they got huge gains vs. our nickel packages as we were defending the lead and the pass game.

True, but the Rams and Redskins ran it right out of the gate. Its an issue.

Now perhaps its fixable. It might be a drawback of the Wide 9. It might be that our Dts and LBs are a bit light in the posterior (and perhaps DJ Jones needs to play more). Maybe some of it is the team getting sloppy when up with big leads.

Regardless of what the cause is, its showed up in most games this year and in particular the last 2.

I'm not saying its a fatal flaw or not correctable, but its an issue...especially in a few weeks when they go to Baltimore.

Well let's how it looks with Kwon out and Greenlaw in. Maybe just maybe it gets better in run defense.

I don't hate him. LOL. I was in the stands for his catch vs the Saints.

In fact the line is a callback to a quote from longtime 49er Offensive Line coach Bobb McKittrick. Probably old and obscure enough that nobody else remembers it.

He was talking about blocking backs and he said that "with apologies to Roger Craig and none to Rickey Watters, Garrison Hearst is the best blocking back we've ever had" or something to that effect. :) I was just re-using that line. :)

Welcome back Marvin49, pleasant surprise to see "Thoughts after rewatching",just didn't feel the same without it.

Curious to know what Seachicken fans are saying what its gonna take to beat us, what do they think our weaknesses are? Are they still as cocky as ever?

Man would I love to put them 3+ games behind in the division
