One of the primary jobs of a receiving target is to "receive" the ball. You are supposed to catch it. They have been doing this all their life but apparently don't know how to catch. Other NFL teams I see have backups who may not be fast or run the best routes but at least they can catch a ball. If you have been playing this position for all your life don't you think it's kind of important to catch the passes? I see other NFL receivers routinely do it. But ours apparently can't. Obviously it's costly.
Emmanuel Sanders and George Kittle go out and this team is totally non functional. Of course it hurts a lot to lose your top 2 targets. I would expect a drop off. But not guys who can't catch the ball. Guys who routinely bounce the ball straight high up into the air for probable interceptions off their BRICK hands. Just like tonight I think it will be deeply costly against the very good teams.
