I cant imagine many thought Pettis would regress and Goodwin would become an afterthought.
Those are both pretty big disappointments.

Well Goodwin has a good excuse with his private issues but the team can only excuse him for so long if he cannot catch the ball consistently when he does play.
Pettis has no excuse. He should be well towards stellar by now but he is a bust.

Fix the historically awful drop problem we had Monday, and we'll look a lot better. Posted this in the other thread, but the 49ers were actually 2nd best in the NFL for least number of drops going into Monday's game. It was just one of the worst games in years for our receivers. We now sit at 6th worst in terms of team drops. A few more on Sunday could put us at the bottom of the league.

This is a weird way to come out.

We have sufficient depth, but having Taylor, sanders and Hurd injured coupled with Pettis's underwhelming performances have made us lean on players we never should have in Bourne, James Jr, and in some ways Goodwin.
Add in the Kittle injury and we have worst case scenario
One or two missteps from not having the players to fill the roster spots

I think we're pretty desperate for help - but, it looks like this is what we'll have, at least until Kittle and Sanders come back.

Nope. Emmanuel Sanders being injured exposed the entire offense. Apparently the game plan was predicated on running the offense through Sanders. The other receivers would feed off of that. When Sanders went down, guys had to play different positions and it screwed with Jimmy's timing and guys routes weren't the most crisp and of course the drops.
Many teams can't make in-game adjustments around a major offensive piece going down. When you're playing an unnatural spot, everyone starts thinking and when you start thinking you start screwing up. That's what happened on Monday.
Even if both Kittle and Sanders are out vs. Arizona, our offense will look better because we'll have a specific install based around other guys. Contrary to popular belief, teams don't have a playbook on game day with 1,000 plays in it for every scenario. They have a specific offensive and defensive install based on the team they're playing that week and they practice that install throughout the week. That's why you see teams meltdown offensively when a major player who they run the offense through goes down. Essentially Deebo had to become Eman, Pettis had to become Deebo and Bourne had to become Pettis. So all three guys were doing things that they didn't do in practice that week and when that happens, they're thinking instead of reacting and when you start thinking, you start screwing up. Then all of this transfers to the QB who has to deal with the timing being off on routes and now he's second guessing and throwing in front of or behind players.
And Kyle is affected to. All he has is that laminated sheet with all the stuff they practiced during the week. He can't go beyond that. Other NFL teams are no different.

Goodwin was a mirage. The Eric Johnson and Vermon Davis mirage if you will. You are the only guy we are going to throw to this year so your numbers make you look GREAT!.
Goodwin was never really anything to write home about. Pettis should potential at the end of last year and I'm going to say it til the cows come home. He's playing better than his numbers indicate. The TD he had against the Cards. He seems to be open on that route almost all the time but JG very rarely ever targets him. Yeah, he doesn't catch those tough balls all the time. But he doesn't exactly get the catch and run balls like Sanders and Deebo are getting. IMO he gets the best separation than almost all of our WRs not named Sanders but his passes are almost never thrown on time or in a way in which he can catch and run. Why was he not in there for those quick slants and skinny posts? You're scheming the traffic away from him. So him having to make tough catches shouldn't been an option. Yet, I don't recall him getting a pass like thrown his way. The one pass he dropped he got knocked the F out.
All that said, If we need a slot insurance policy while Sanders is down and we don;t trust what we have. Cut Goodwin and Promote Burnett from PS. Goodwin adds nothing at this point. Burnett would be a nice chain mover in the absence of Trent and/or Sanders IMO.

10-0 in 1st qtr...Sanders leaves early in the 2nd and we don't score again until the 4th quarter which was a defensive TD

sure wish they could bring in dez for a look see. at least he could catch. i really think that once sanders went out. kyle. said we are f**ked. he did not have the dennis erickson finger up his butt expression nor did he have the jh deer in the headlights look.. he just looked beaten to me on the sidelines all game long

As if we didn't know.
2 drives with E. Sanders: 8.5 yards per attempt, 10 points
— David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) November 13, 2019
13 drives without E. Sanders: 4.5 yards per attempt, 6 points
Monday showed the 49ers need either George Kittle or Emmanuel Sanders — at least one receiving pillar. So what comes next? https://t.co/FBLFGeP5to
